Just had my leave approved for Feb next year! Spending a few days in Santiago then doing an intrepid trip and ending in Buenos Aires and spending a few days there.
Key question is this: you can do tours of the presidential palace in Buenos Aires on the weekends and can go out onto the Balcony - would it be completely inappropriate to sing 'Don't Cry for me Argentina'?

the presidential palace totally depends on if demonstrations are on. a friend was upset by that. i tried to tell her imagine if you are facing those austerity measures. she still couldnt get her selfie.
if you can, go to iguazu falls. all the delta w a small boat, which was a lovely day trip! & eat steak & alfajores for me!

I did a trip through Patagonia (beginning in Santiago and ending in Buenos Aires) a few years ago. Great trip but the city stuff in BA was not the highlight!

My favourite countries in the world!
Santiago is an easy City to get around. Buenos Aires has more Highlights and is definitely the more spectacular city, however. It has a reasonable Metro System so that helps.
In answer to your question, yes, but it's got to be super tempting!

On reading the thread title, my first thought was it might be chilly in Chile and I'd have to tell the Argentinians not to cry for me!

I'm Baaaaaack!
Had a great time.
Stayed in a great area in Santiago right buy a bunch of great restaurants. Did a day trip to Valiparaiso and Vina Del Mar (with a stop off in a winery in Casablanca). My Intrepid tour was great - only three of us plus the guide so luckily we all got on.
Uruguay didn't happen due to scheduling and it being South America.
I think I'll go through Empanada ad Alfahores withdrawl
