I'm going to use points to fly to London. Spend a day or 2 in London, then Eurostar over to Brussels because it's cheap to take the train and I like European trains. Spend a day or 2 in Brussels and then go to Bruges, Ghent, Antwerp and Amsterdam.
Yes, I know, lots of train, but unlike Italy, I can bring the small suitcase because I won't have to carry pottery stuff.
Now, I just have to save the pennies for the things like hotels and food.

That sounds great! And I honestly think there can never be too much train. I love trains.

That sounds great- and an opportunity for a mini pissup along the way perhaps?

That sounds great- and an opportunity for a mini pissup along the way perhaps? Sounds like there could be lots of mini-pissups! We have done the train from London to Brussels and then on into Germany, across Germany to Berlin, then Berlin to Dresden and finally Prague. All very easy and fun to do. Another time was London - Paris-Amsterdam by train.

About the only downside to living at the arse end of the world is not being able to country hop by train.
I loved how easy it was to travel from England to France to Belgium to Germany to Switzerland to Italy etc all on trains. It really is a wonderful way to see the world.
Have fun planning.

You are starting to give me more ideas of what to do before/after my organised trip in Italy/Germany next year. Trains for sure, I think.

Aha! This is much closer and easier to get to than Italy, which ultimately proved impossible to get to at the time without costing an arm and a leg. Keep us posted! I'm off to Antwerp late next week to meet up with English friends as a half way point - a very worthwhile addition to the itinerary!

this does sound like a lot of fun!
quite often, there are eurostar tickets for £30 each way if you book a return. (it may work out better to easyjet from Amsterdam back to London, of course.)

The Oberammergau Passion Play in September. The tour starts in Milan on 2nd September and ends in Munich on Friday 11 th September. At this stage, I have no firm plans before or after the group component, which is with people I mostly know well. I have some ideas, but am open to suggestions, depending on budget and time constraints.
