I just booked ferry tickets for myself and my campervan to and from Tasmania in February. I will stay for a month. I’m not making too many plans, except that I will head west and stop where I feel like it.

Lovely! Deloraine was my favourite town when I went there when I was 21. Took LC and Clipper back there for our holiday last year and found it was just as lovely as I remembered it.

I have yet to visit Tasmania. I keep mentioning it to Dr w3, but I think he's set his sights on Thailand opening up again when we can travel OS.

Oh how wonderful, Ozzie. I went to Tassie twice, the first time we drove down the middle and retuned along the east coast and made our way to Stanley to see the Nut!
A day trip from Hobart heading west along the Huon Highway to Geeveston, then right at Arves Road until you reach the Tahune Airwalk is awesome. Tahune was fairly new when we were there in 2004. The “Airwalk” is along an elevated bridge among the tree tops with the Huon River below, the end section is cantilevered. Naturally The Troublemaker (youngest lad) said look at this mum......then he jumped up and down for all he was worth to scare me! Another well worth it thing to do.
Second time, I didn’t hire a car, but went by bus down the west side. Queenstown is quaint, Strahan is beautiful. Cruise on the Gordon River well worth it. If you would like more ideas or tips, let me know. I loved Tassie, it was wonderful!
Note: Very windy at The Nut. Very windy and icy cold wind at Port Arthur. More about the ghost tours later. There really is a ghost walks one of the places!

I second the cruise on the Gordon River in Strahan. We did it on Christmas Day a few years ago. The commentary was so interesting especially at Sarah Island (I think that was what it was called) and beautiful scenery.

I was in Tassie for a week two years ago, mostly Hobart, east coast and around Deloraine, where a friend lives. Bush fires prevented travel further west. Current plan is head west along the north coast, and stop for a few days somewhere nice, then down to Strahan and cruise the Gordon River. I have bad memories of Queenstown from a family trip when I was 17. After that, who knows? I have four weeks.

One "not to be missed" on my Tassie list is Freycinet National Park (with Wineglass Bay, The Hazards etc) - a bit of a trek to get too but absolutely beautiful! 25-ish years ago I stayed at Freycinet Lodge but that would probably be way out of my league these days - still, with a campervan, you have so many good options!

We stayed at the caravan park at Freycinet. It had such beautiful views on to the water.

Mei - I'll keep working on him. NZ was also in the conversation, but that seems to not excite him either (sorry NZers!).

It is actually only 5 or 6 hours drive from Strahan. Everything is so close in Tassie! One possible route would allow me to stay at Lake St Clair en route.
