What are you having for dinner tonight? Me hmm 🤔 I’d love to have roast duck with duchess potatoes, asparagus and a white wine jus. Followed by Crèam Brûlée and Cognac. That’s what I’d love to have. But in actual fact what I will be getting my choppers around is stewed beef, mashed potatoes and mashed carrots. No dessert. No wine.. Boooring! But I think there’s still some grapes in the fridge, and I know there’s a few cans of Kombucha.
How about you? Are your culinary skills working well or will you have something quick and easy?

Chicken massaman curry, which used up the remains of frozen chicken thigh fillets, half a jar of curry paste, a tin of coconut milk, the last of my cooking oil and the last of my bag of rice. I’ll freeze two serves for next week. I move in two weeks.

We had toad in the hole (veggie sausages, sad on their own, but good in this), and some frozen veggies I'd roaste d earlier.
the batter on the sausagages was nice and poofy around hte edges, but under/between the sausages, still a bit gummy.

I tossed the pheasant into its marinade a few hours ago, ready for tonight's roast feast. Reminded me of this... I’m not the pheasant plucker, I’m the pheasant plucker’s son, I’m simply plucking feathers till the feather plucker comes! I am not the pheasant plucker, I’m the pheasant plucker’s mate. I am only plucking pheasants Because the pheasant plucker’s late. Try saying those fast ten times!

We had clams, noodles, and stir fry veggies. Once again, I nearly killed the partner by overfrying the chilis and creating a sort of nerve gas which doesn't bother me at all, but nearly incapacitates him.

I ordered in. Garlic prawn pizza, churros and Sprite. I have leftovers, too. I have to go out tomorrow to order a fridge. I’m using the one in the van, but because the back door is sticking badly, it is twice the usual effort to go out there. And I have to keep the cat safely in the house for a few days, so am shutting her in the spare room whenever I go out, which generally requires a food bribe. At least I’m now in a town where I can get food delivered.

When I came home from ordering appliances, I bought enough Chinese takeaway for three meals, so I’m set for a while.

In the old days, Friday was fish’n’chips. Friday was ALWAYS fish’n’chips! Today is Friday. Today is a lazy day. Dinner is fish’n’chips!

We'll have Scotch Broth and dumplings, but the pearl barley keeps soaking up all the liquid I put in, so I'll have to add in some seasoning to compensate for hte extra liquid I put in to steam the dumplings. This means summoning my taste tester to make sure I don't oversalt or some such.

Tonight I actually cooked something - chicken thighs with a lemon-miso sauce; it's good.
Ice cream will be for dessert again, of course. Just a tiny amount.

I made a culinary purist's abomination two nights ago - it's like a cross between a chili and some sort of pasta dish with all sorts of veg, different beans, chopped up spaghetti and soy mince in a tomato base with tons of onion, garlic and spices. It's very tasty which is good as I made loads-- it came to six dinners' worth, I'm probably going to freeze a few at least!

What is spritzerlined wine? Wine turned into whine? For whine drinkers?

Half wine half seltzer. I said "spritzerized" so as to not imply that I was drinking a bottled spritzer, which I have doubts about

Seltzer is not a word in common use in Australia, except for the indigestion remedy alka seltzer. I would make a wine spritzer with soda water. Great in a schooner glass on a hot western NSW day.

Seltzer and spritzerised is still all a mystery to me. When I drink wine, I drink wine, when I drink water, I drink water. The only thing added to wine is my fondness for it.

"Spritzerized" is a word I made up on the spot, so you can forget you ever saw it unless you see it again somewhere else, at which point you can blame it on me having coined it.
Seltzer is basically soda water only less intensely fizzy. I have no idea what the difference is.

I’ve also used sparkling mineral water, which has less sodium than soda water.
