To southern Spain in mid-late September.
I can get direct return flights to Malaga for ~£75 each. We'll be vaccinated. Will we be able to travel? Who knows, but I'm thinking of taking the punt, on the basis of the prices are bound to sky rocket when we do have more certainty, and I maybe it's better to have £150 of flights we don't use, than have to spend £400 if we do want to/ can go.

Sounds very exciting!!
Flights here are already expensive - the airfare for flights up to Maine was absurd.

I think there's a particular law of economics you're doing very well on with that philosophy, but can't think of it now.
Can you afford to lose 150? Can you get insurance, or would the deductible be the ticket cost?
If so, go for it.

I think there's a particular law of economics you're doing very well on with that philosophy, but can't think of it now. Can you afford to lose 150? Can you get insurance, or would the deductible be the ticket cost? If so, go for it. I think I know that economonic concept. But yes, I could afford to lose that £150, more than I could afford to spend £400. Also, both ryanair and easyjet are allowing one free re-schedule, so I could offest the fares against a future, pricier fare. Now, however I have a question. Himself, given the opportunity, would take every holiday to either France or Istanbul. The latter is very clearly out for the foreseeable. But, France...? So, I reckon we could do Bordeaux for a long weekend (Sat- tues, reasonable flights from Edinburgh) AND Malaga (and train to Cordoba) for a 8-10 days. Total cost ~£120 each. So, logically follow the weather south? Bordeaux mid sept, Malaga early October? Or Spain look more likely to be easier for pox-benighted UK travellers sooner, so spain September, france October? Thoughts?

France then Spain. Something I can only dream about!

Book it, they should allow you to reschedule at least once.
Though who knows what the rules for getting off Plague Island will be by then.

We booked on Friday. Bordeaux was £35 each, Malaga £65 each. Who knows if we will actually go?! But I can live with those losses. I'm excited at the mere notion!

Yeah I'm not going to South America anytime soon, tragic as that is when I think of it.

Not sure I want to leave my country at the moment. I’m having enough trouble here crossing state borders.

Yeah, borders are fraught in Oz at the moment. We were about to cancel our trip to SA, but on Thursday they've opened up again to WA. So we're going. Subject to borders not slamming shut again :-D

Well perhaps we should have cancelled - we made it to SA yesterday and today they've gone into 7 day lockdown. We have managed to get a flight back to WA tomorrow, but have to go into 14 day quarantine!
I always knew it was risky and here we are.
A very expensive experiment.

Yeah I'm not leaving the country because I can only go to Aus or Rarotonga and the travel bubble with AU has been paused more than it's been opened.

Yeah, it wasn't my choice, we'd planned for months to do a road trip through WA and then drW3 decided he wanted to get on a plane (what can you do!). And I also should've listened to my inner voice when those removalists moved through Vic and SA shedding the virus as they went.
Not that this current lockdown is caused by them, it was the NSW problem.
I'm planning a nice 14 day break in my own home, with lots of gardening planned (if the weather holds), otherwise it could just be cooking, eating and netflix :-D

We have a cross country flight mid-September. The way cases are going I'm starting to wonder if this trip will happen.
