Tomorrow I am heading up island to meet a friend for lunch. It’s another running away from home day. I can pretend it’s more, but these days even a day trip with a friend counts as travel.

That's like me taking a train to Philadelphia back in July or whenever that was. I went to the train station! and rode a train!
I'm supposed to be going to Portland in less than 2 weeks, and it's looking less and less plausible - their COVID rates are spiking right now. So I'm trying to think of pretend travel things to do with that time off. There's a town "Frederick" about 30 miles from here that I've hardly ever gone to; I might drive up there and eat lunch, walk around.

I’m very lucky I did my 2500 km road trip when I did. Now I’m stuck in my local government area until at least 10th September. Can’t even get to the beach. I’m thinking I might have to start driving to the river for a walk every couple of days. Meanwhile, I’m watching lots of travel on tv.

That certainly qualifies for travel in 2021 Sophie!
I won't bore you with my 36 hour attempt at a holiday again. But suffice to say, I won't be trying that again anytime soon.
I guess I'm a little lucky that I drive 400 km back and forth to my house vs work (and apartment in the city). Spring was definitely in the air last Monday for the drive - it was beautiful and all the canola was out and everything was so green and gold!

Yes. That was the highlight of my road trip, the green and gold of both the fields and the wattle (one of the places I visited briefly was Cootamundra).
