I have a (currently hypothetical) travel question.
I have 9 days holiday I have to take by the end of March, so we are looking at going somewhere for a week or so in March, covid-permitting.
Because of covid, booking a package looks better as we wont lose our money if we can't travel.
We'd like to go outside Europe if possible.
One option that came up is Bali. I love Indonesia but not sure how touristy Bali is (previously been to Java and Sulawesi). March is the end of the rainy season which might be why the packages are cheaper.
Any thoughts?

I liked the cultural aspects of Bali but not sure if those tours/venues would be available so soon after reopening. The spas were wonderful but same question. Would you have to quarantine upon your return? That alone would make it a poor choice for me.

Good point.
Bali is not currently open to UK tourists but the fact packages are on sale for six months from now seems to indicate they expect it will be then.

At the moment you have to quarantine on arrival in Bali. Who knows what it will be like in 6 months time.
I've never been, have been put off by the pissed Aussie bogan types who do go. But I would like to see the hinterland and cultural stuff, away from the bogan bars on the beaches.

I avoid Bali (like the plague?). Lombok is (was) a better option last time I went to Indonesia, but it's quite some time ago now.
It's a looooong way to go from the UK for 9 days - have you thought about somewhere like Mauritius? It has a real creole vibe and fab food, easy to drive around (same side of the road) and plenty of resort style hotels if that's your thing or self-catering options if you prefer that.

Thanks everyone. Also looking at Cuba (staying in Havana, not one of the big coastal resorts).

I’m with Wombat. I’ve never been to Bali, not just because of the bogans, but also because I don’t trust the Indonesians, given Timor Leste and West Papua. Indonesia has also had a pretty bad run with Covid, and could well be the source of the issues in PNG at the moment. At the moment, I wouldn’t consider a holiday in Fiji either.

I'm also not sure if I would want to fly that far for just 9 days. A friend visited Zanzibar and Kenya (I think, or Uganda) this past August and that was apparently very doable, also from a covid-perspective.
I have only been keeping on eye on Japan, but I think Asian countries in general are very hesitant to open up more making it difficult to plan travel...
