We usually go away to a caravan in N Yorks (half-term week).
This year MrSnow is going to a training course thing in Rome that week.
What is there to do with children in Rome late October? Child2 is keen to go to the Vatican (geography enthusiast), and I'm sure pasta and ice cream will go down well (pizza not so much with one of them, who objects to anything tomato-based).

You know you can get white pizza? A classic combo is potato and fontina cheese.
Anyway, the food would be enough for me :-D

Would they enjoy a trip down the catacombs? There is plenty in Rome for the history enthusiast, like the forum and the coliseum (but then I’m so ancient I did Latin at school).
I also did a day trip to Naples and Pompeii.

I did not eat any form of tomato - including ketchup - til I was about 9. One of my first forays into a taste of the red stuff was proper Italian pizza. So I'd say there is hope!

Ah, but he used to eat ketchup, pizzas etc and then for some reason decided not to... It may relate to the siren call of BBQ sauce (Heinz), but I'm not sure. They are 9 and 7, to answer someone's question. I learnt today it's not even settled this thing will take place in Rome, it could be San Diego if travel restrictions are causing problems. If there's a UN type building with a row of all the flags that would constitute a major attraction for at least one of them, as would a visit to Vatican City (you may be spotting a theme here). |

Wonder if it might be possible to persuade children it would be a boring place for them and leave them with grandparents while *I* go. |

One reason my son wants to go to Italy is for the food.  And he's been planning that trip since he was about 9. |
