My mother was older than her grandmother, but the only jelly she ever made was aeroplane. Dad tried to make a large one, with several packets of crystals and lots of fruit in it once, while mum was in hospital, having an “operation”, which took several days to set. I still use the commonsense cook book for basic recipes.

Officially confused. I didn't really know my grandparents (they died when I was a child). The grandmother I did meet was a kid was a good but eccentric cook who never cooked the same thing twice and eschewed the use of recipes. I cook pretty much the same way

I’m a bit like that with most savoury things. Her grandmother was born in 1919. My mother was born in 1907.

I still make my grandmother's apple slice recipe. Often now that I have two apple trees.

My grandmothers didn't ever cook for me. My mother on the otherhand...

I was confused by "my mother was older than her grandmother" too, until I realized that what you were saying was "my mother was older than VeryBadLlama's grandmother" rather than "my mother was older than her own grandmother," which sounds like one of those logic puzzles.
