West is being a performative idiot — he’ll only drain votes from the Dem ticket. I don’t like it but people have to accept that this is a 2-party country. It’s good for people to compete in the Dem primary but please now is not the time for fooling around w 3rd parties! I read someone castigating the current Dem attitude as “we’re the Biden or Death party,” but it’s kinda true Sigh i know nods in dismay the arabs in michigan are turning against biden. a blue state

I can NOT believe that Biden wants congress to approve over US$14 BILLION in funding for Israel.
ETA: And this is the country that has been making a massive deal about how much they supposedly have been 'subsidising' the Gaza strip for decades. MASSIVE eye roll.

ETA: And this is the country that has been making a massive deal about how much they supposedly have been 'subsidising' the Gaza strip for decades. MASSIVE eye roll. Why not? Iran, Syria, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, all subsidize the terrorist organization Hamas. Tomorrow it will be 4 months that Hamas has held the kidnapped they and UNRWA took from Israel. We're still waiting for the Red Cross and UN to report on the safety of the 136 - oops, 104 (because it's confirmed Hamas has killed about 32 of them) still held. And why is it that Hamas demanded the release of murderers and terrorists for innocent victims. Sooooooooooooo, yeah. YOU CAN NOT BELIEVE... I cannot believe that people think Israel started this. And that Hamas isn't a problem for the rest of the world too. Yeah. Keep not believing.

I think of the Israeli government and Hamas as both having very undesirable traits, and the people of both groups are suffering because of that, and it's terrible. I really want Israel to survive, and I really want them to have a different government. And I really want the Palestinians to survive, and I really want Hamas to go the hell away.
Hard to put that on a protest sign

Hard to put that on a protest sign Absolutely. But US$14B is an enormous amount of money. The relationship between the USA and Israel is quite hard to understand from the outside. I did read a book that delved into some of the politics around it... I can't remember the name, I'll see if I can find it.

IT was the holocaust industry. Which I am aware is a controversial book, but the bits about politics and the america/israel relationship doesn't seem to be in question, and it's heavily referenced.

That term (holocaust industry) had to be one of the worst, most disrespectful terms ever used. WHO ever uses it had zero respect.

To be fair to the author, I think he saw this 'behaviour' that he felt was quite pervasive as being incredibly disrespectful and wrong - but not the best phrase to choose to describe it, for sure (extreme sarcasm). A product of its times, perhaps.

to be clear, his sin was in the 'naming' of it, not the 'doing' of it.

One of the podcasts I listen to is called "Pod save the UK" had an interview with an MP, Nadia Whittome, and she was asked about who do you vote for if you hate the Tories but don't think the Labour Party is all that great.
(UK has more than two parties but in terms of actually leading the country it tends to come down to just those two)
Her response was basically "do vote - and vote for the party closest to your values that you can find" and then added "campaign like crazy for better policies between elections... either by belonging to a party and working for change, or by activism outside the party"
Which is obvious but some of us (me included) haven't been doing the second part.

Unlike our cousins across the water, we don’t have Primaries or Secondaries or even Thirderies, we just have voting on one day that’s it. And you can watch little men on your telly screen racing around as the counting takes place. Such a simpler way of doing things.

I think there is a very strong chance that [menace] will get back into office. I wonder how that will go? Oh, hey, yeah, he totally has a plan. to fix everything. all of it. I mean, he can end that whole ukraine thing in a 30 minute meeting with Putin! I could too, if I could get close enough to put strychnine in his tea, but I suspect that's not what the DT is planning.

I'm surprised at how many people don't understand the difference between a president and a prime minister, and why some countries have one or the other or sometimes, both. But then I remember how little many people want to know about politics in general (until something happens and they do, all of a sudden)

What's behind that - was he always as conservative as he now seems? Is it party politics that's changed, rather than the person?

Right now the Republicans have a majority in the house, and the Senate is nearly split 50-50. And the current Republicans are right-wing LUNATICS. So the fact that any even remotely progressive legislation is getting through is a miracle.

Did you catch the Kennedy who is planning an independent presidential run? He has such a strange voice or was sick when they interviewed him.
