Aww they are beautiful Ron.
In true fishy fashion (champagne desires; sparkling water budget) my sofas are second hand. I bought them second hand but reasonably new, about 12 years ago. I needed a lounge suite and realised that I hated the quality of the new ones and their price. So I paid a similar dollar value for a good quality second hand suite rather than shitty new.

Don't exactly budget, but have a fair idea of what we are spending and where.
Do look for a bargain if possible - one reason for renewing my driver's licence early was because the 50% discount for being a good driver is being cut out after Saturday. I'd rather have that $100 than hand it over to the govt!
But sometimes we do chuck money at things to solve a problem quickly- often holidays could be done cheaper but it is easier to put the money in,

Yeah, out of curiousity, I just looked up a couple of furniture stores near where I think Ron is, and yup, cheapest sofas were about 2K CDN. I'm not a massive fan of the set we have (I mean, it's ok, but if they ever die, the replacements will be totally different), but they are good quality and were far cheaper than that! I really wanted to get some peices with interesting structures and have them re-upholstered, but the person paying the bill just wanted similar sofas, now.
Groceries this week, I thought I'd kept the order tight, but when it all fit into one delivery crate... ouch. Of course, there were a few things in there we didn't need, but they were things we eat often and they were on discount, so I got them anyway. I have made a note-to-self not to do that next week.

Budgets are not something I like to do, but Ron’s picture reminded me of having to budget after an expensive ear infection our dog had last year. Ouch in more ways than one.

Oh… 2k are NOT looking good in real life. Or aren’t comfortable. Trust me. I don’t care for expensive things.

I don't understand why it is so hard to find sofas that have upholstered backs, rather than the ones with loose cushions. They piss me off because the cushions inevitably get squishy and lose shape and I'd rather just have a proper firm sofa back to lean on. But they are either impossible to find or incredibly expensive. I guess it's cheaper to make sofas this way???

I am making do with a pandemic sofa. Ours was in shreds and I had to get a replacement. Anything comparable would have been a custom order and supply chains were at a snail's pace between covid and that huge Chinese freighter stuck in the Suez Canal. In addition lots of the custom orders were from China and the stores were saying it would take six months. If they were admitting to six months I figured it would be at least a year.
I finally found an OK sofa, not nearly as nice as the the old one used to be, but there it was, in plain sight, and it could be delivered in a few days. I hung around the showroom, sat on the sofa and spoke to a couple of sales-people. One of them told me there was only one more left in that color, which was close to what I needed. Another guy checked the inventory and said no, the one I was sitting on was the last one and the color was being discontinuted.
My brain kicked in: "Oh, does that make this a floor sample?" He perked up and said, "Let me see what I can do for you..." Long story short, he cut me a good deal, I donated my old one and got the new one the next week. Furniture salespeople, I believe, are close kin to car salespeople. So the sofa fills the spot. Some day I may replace it, but there's no hurry.

Ron, that is a sad time. We know it's coming, but that doesn't help.
Lisa, we have upholstered backs. they're kind of less comfortable; quite stiff. I cannot sleep on our sofas.
