What can youall tell me about Häagen-Daz? What is your favourite flavour? Is it really “to die for” as someone said? Many times I have heard of people who rave about Häagen-Dazs, in some television programs you see the female grab a small tub of ice-cream from the freezer, sit on the floor and eat the whole tub practically. At $13.50 for a 420ml or so tub, it is prohibitively expensive, but I am tempted to buy one just to see and taste.
I noticed Coles have one called “Häagen-Dazs Macaron Strawberry Raspberry Ice Cream” sounds divine.
In a first of its kind recipe collaboration between two legendary brands, Häagen-Dazs is excited to invite you into the world of Häagen-Dazs X Pierre Herme Paris: a collection that re-interprets the macaron to create the ultimate fusion of food and fashion. In this recipe we introduced pink mini macaron shells to creamy strawberry ice cream and watched the magic happen. Head on the tastebud trip of a lifetime as you dive into fruity pools of raspberry sauce, picking up pink mini macaron shells - in all their glory - along the way.
It is of course, Made in France! I know Häagen-Dazs is ice-cream, but I thought Hermès was scarves and things!

I’d prefer to buy an Australian brand like Norco or Bulla. Both do some pretty classy ones.

It's an American brand founded by a Polish couple who invented a fancy Scandinavian sounding name to make it seem exotic.
The company are very very good at marketing.
Why anyone in Australia or NZ would buy ice cream imported from France is beyond me. Buy a local brand and some fresh berries instead.

It's fine, but not worth importing from halfway around the world.

No, it’s just commercial American ice cream with a fake European-sounding name. Stick to the local stuff.
Like everyone else said here, I now see.

You constantly complain about not being able to move, spending too much money and feeling ill, yet you want to spend over $13 for American Ice Cream?

I used to buy it, but only because the local alternative was so crap that the main ingredients weren't always dairy. If you're ever stateside, sure, try some. But it's not special.

Definitely not that special. I’ll buy a couple of the flavours if they are on sale but only if my first choice brand isn’t available. Marketing is first rate. Product is okay.

I only buy it when it's the cheapest thing in the ice cream case or I just want vanilla.

I just can't keep much ice cream in the house. I eat it too fast. I will go to the custard stand which takes more effort.

I hate Talenti because it comes in those wide-mouth screw-top plastic containers that can be really hard to open, and what a waste of difficult-to-recycle plastic when you can just as easily put ice cream in cardboard.
I like Van Leeuwen and Jeni's, and our local ice creams Dolcezza and Moorenko's. Dolcezza used to have plastic containers, but it's converting to cardboard now.

I am an ice-cream person, not a gelati person. Thank you for the links, Wombat, they look amazing. Some of those places will make a nice Sunday drive! In my mind’s eye, I had a vision of a cardboard tub (of ice-cream) but it was the Sara Lee tub I was thinking of and it is much larger than the Häagen-Dazs one. I have remembered I have had Häagen-Dazs before. It was in Paris, I’d been to Sacré-Cœur, caught the Montmartre funicular and back on the street there was an ice-cream shop (Häagen-Dazs) across the road. London Lad and dil and I all went there and had the most delicious ice-cream!

I love ice cream but can't really see the difference with gelato. Sorbet yes, but as far as I can taste, gelato is just more interesting flavours at a higher price point. We have some good local makers here, but sadly most don't sell by the pint, or else I would take more bike rides to the nearest one. I should just show up with a container someday...

Fig and ginger ice cream - but I've only found it in London... which makes it more expensive than HD, even from here.

I like it all!!!! Except for creamcicle (orange cream) and anything Peanut butter/chocolate flavors.
I had fig and honey gelato in Rome at San Crispino.
Van Leeuwen makes a really good HoneyComb. If you can find Adirondack Ice Cream, their Kulfi Pistacio Cardamom is amazing. (actually all their flavors are amazing)
I like getting plain vanilla bean and mixing things in, like fresh fruit and balsamic vinegar, or honey and nuts.
And I make my own fruit freezes by blending frozen fruits in my Frooti Smoothie maker.

You have a point. Talenti's pistaccio ice cream is really really really good, though.

My first job was at Woolworths. I had to wear a stupid blue smock, but I also got to work in the music department.
I have a hard time wrapping my head around it being a grocery store - here it was a “5 and dime,” cheap place where you could buy almost anything (except groceries).
Anyway: what principle causes you to oppose it (maybe I don’t want to know)?

Our original Woolworths and Coles were both the equivalents of your 5 and dime, but in those days we still used pounds, shillings and pence.
