As expected, the tour of my favourite band just got postponed to March 2022.
That'll teach me for seeing them twice in 2019.

I've been having Workplace Issues, so I thought the following would be appropriate:

The radio just played what sounded like a mariachi band playing "Nessun Dorma" from Turandot, only with different lyrics. I was like "why do I recognize this song? It's not on any of our Mexican records I don't think"

Who loves Elvis? He had a beautiful voice, one of those recognisable, you’d know it anywhere voices!

Decided to finally track down a spoken word song I've been loving on the radio and found a much longer live version. I hadn't realised it was all looping and double bass - sure, I'd picked up the bass but not that it was a double bass. riverhorse - one you might find interesting,

Arlo Parks! She does this great cover of "Creep" on solo piano, which is of course the Radiohead song that everyone is sick of but Parks somehow revived it.
She also looks a lot like this excellent woman at my office, so I instantly liked her for that too.

I really enjoyed this this other night - I watched it live on YouTube, but here it is free to view anytime.
Edit to add - not true - it was only available for a limited time so I've removed the link. See my next post for an explanation.
So try this one:
and maybe this too (I'm in there somewhere with my bass)

jimm that video has some sort of restriction on it. I'm curious, what's at 58:30? It's Melbourne Symphony Orchestra's Youtube Channel - www.youtube.com/channel/UCWC3rUkPeaV2B2r_bwwgnNwYou probably have to subscribe to the channel. At 58:30 they played a world premier of a wonderful new compostion with modern jazz influences. And it looks like that video has expired. Pity

Oh too bad - that sounds neat. I love modern/experimental orchestral music.
Today I was listening to the Mexico City university radio station (Radio UNAM) and they played an interesting piece by someone I didn't know about, John McMillan. I'll have to try to find the name of that piece, they announced it very quickly in Spanish.

I’m not a great fan of Wagner, but I love The Ride of The Valkyries! I particularly enjoy this version - the singers are stupendous. If only all females were like this, there would be very few crimes against women!

I won't impose them on you, but PG and I are listening to silly Karneval songs in Cologne dialect, as usually we would be heading out in our town's street parade this afternoon.

Ah, my husband also made me listen to some weird Dutch carnival songs this weekend. One about a horse in the hallway and another that was something like 'I want to be a flower curtain'!

Wow, Carnival already... huh look at that, Mardi Gras is on Tuesday. I'm sure that parade is canceled too.

I know the one about the horse in the hallway, there's a German version too! In a few minutes, we're going to watch the "parade" on TV. So crazy are the people of Cologne for Karneval, the city's famous marionette theatre has built miniature copies of the parade floats for this year, and there will be a "miniature parade" live on TV.

Johnny Farnham was my hero back in the day I had a schoolgirl crush on him as did all the girls under a certain age. Even the mothers liked him - he’s such a clean cut boy! With fame, the Johnny became John! Who could ever forget You’re The Voice - great song 🎶 often called Australia’s unofficial anthem!
If the first doesn’t play, try this one.

I’ve been listening to Dublin radio. The oldest man in Ireland is 107years old and he had the coronavirus vaccination. He survived the Spanish Flu pandemic of 1918! Amazing!

Neat tucano - I'll have to listen to that tomorrow; somehow didn't get around to it today.
Today I listened to Soft Machine's "Third," which was one of my favorite records in the late 70s. Kind of a mashup of very energetic jazz and prog rock.

Ah yes: I have an 'I am Woman' story. For some reason I have always loathed that song - don't ask, it's just one of those things.
Anyway back in the 80s I went to a pro-choice march with a friend and she hatched the idea that we should somehow con our way onto the stage where all the Important People were sitting, because why stand when there are chairs to sit on. I hated the idea, but being that sort she prevailed, and so here I was, wishing I could crawl under my chair and hide, up on the stage. So then of course what happened next was Helen Reddy appearing like 20 feet in front of us, and I had to stand up along with all these VIPs and sing along with "I Am Woman" and pretend that I was enjoying myself. Which of course didn't endear me to that song any more.
In other news, the radio is playing a reasonable cover of Leonard Cohen's "Dance Me to the End of Love," so that's good.
