Today we went on one trip in pero's car (with Phoebe Bridgers) and one trip in my car (with Radiohead); we're both stuck in separate repetitive loops of this miserable intense, music. This cracks me up because we're really very happy people, even goofy, really, and yet our vehicles emit this constant keening and wailing.

Pero probably already knows but I believe Phoebe Bridgers is artist-in-residence on 6 Music this month. I don't know if you can access the BBC Sounds app but there's some programme about her.

lol tucano he says "why yes I do know that." He found it but hasn't listened to it yet, but he says thank you! I think I (predictably) found one of those with Thom Yorke recently....

We're listening to the Phoebe/Radio 6 show now, and Jeff Buckley is covering Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan incredibly... this is nuts, he's amazing. Ooh!! And now she's playing the Velvet Underground. Thank you tucano!

I was lucky enough to win a competition in the 90’s - double tickets to a Tommy Emmanuel concert, I later won the major prize! Tickets upgraded to best seats in the house, Tommy Emmanuel’s new CD, and a backstage meeting with the artist. My teenage son desperately wanted to come so I bought him a ticket, it wasn’t best in the house though, there were very few tickets left. ....It had been many years since I’d been to a rock concert - I’d forgotten how loud they were! We did get to meet him after the concert. He was a thoroughly nice man who made time to meet us and signed my CD (he also said he’d sign the letter to make it all “official “ and had photos taken with us. He is a brilliant guitarist, I hope you all enjoy this video as much as we enjoyed his concert.

Preparing a lesson for Year 9 - poetry analysis with the general theme Life in the Big City. As a counter to the older style poems we're looking at, I'm doing this great rap song about the seedy side of life in Berlin. Can't believe this song is 13 years old already! Peter Fox is just an awesome artist. youtube.com/playlist?list=RDyphwzD1XaBY

Here's a post about what I'm not listening to today: I am giving myself a Radiohead Challenge, to see if I can go 24 hours without moaning and singing along to Radiohead, which has gotten a little out of control. Starting now: let's see if I can do it
Update: I made it until 2:30

I was watching the movie Top End Wedding on the weekend (slow start, becomes better when they reach the territory). The music playing when they were on Tiwi Island reminded me of a singer I'd seen live long ago, and bought some CDs.
No idea where the CDs are (or if I have anything I can even play them on). But I found the music on you tube and have had a lovely morning listening to various songs by George Telek. I can't remember if it was Womadelaide where I first heard his stuff, or at the world music festival that was part of the Sydney Olympics.
Here's the song that stuck in my head after the movie (even though it wasn't in the movie)

Ooooh, I remember Telek, Hal, so was either the Olympics arts festival or Homebake we've seen him at.

More likely the Hemispheres Olympic one. I knew I'd seen him with you, which did rule out Womadelaide but I also wondered if I saw him there first.
He was meant to play at something else again but had fallen in a cooking fire in PNG, so maybe that was a Homebake one (which, now I think about it, is poorly named in relation to cooking fire accidents)

I remember this song I loved listening to it. The singer had this way of emphasising certain words which made it quite thrilling to listen to. I was still a child in primary school at the time, and would change the radio station any chance I got - mum listened to 3DB which was old and boring. Only old people listened to that. Mum didn’t like the new finagled rubbish they call music! Dad thought they should all get a decent haircut - short back and sides! None of this long hair looking like a girl!
The Honeycombs were an English band with a female drummer and this is “Have I The Right To Hold You” Many years have passed since 1964. It I still remember the words. I am including two versions, the first was recorded live and is B/W, the second is in colour. Personally I prefer the live recording. Listen to all the teens screaming and going wild at the end of the song. Just like when the Beatles came!
NOTE: Edited, first video not playing, so I have removed it.

I've been listening to Montaigne's entry for this year's Eurovision. I'm not fussed by it. I love Montaigne and have seen her live numerous times. I loved her entry for last year (which didn't happen). But this song is just meh.
Last year's song:

This song was considered very risqué and was banned in some countries. It was released early 1969 but sold with a plain cover and the words, “Interdit, aux moins de 21 ans” (Forbidden to those under 21). Brigitte Bardot also recorded this with Gainsbourg.
Of course, just like Lady Chatterley’s Lover and The Happy Hooker, someone smuggled a copy/book/record into the country and it did the rounds. You put your name on a list and waited until your name got to the top of that list. The only rule was Don’t get caught. For some of us girls it was a case of make sure your mother doesn’t find out.
EDIT: This video can only be played if you go to YouTube. Type the name of the song “ Je T’aime moi non plus” in the google bar and you can watch the video.

Last night pero found a video of a live show from Chicago featuring a pop punk band he likes, Beach Bunny. That was ok, but as one might predict I preferred the opener, a band named Ganser, which was the kind of droning noise band that I like; I'm going to check them out on Bandcamp today.
But if you prefer energetic-noisy to droney-noisy, then Beach Bunny might be for you.

WHOA 7 hours later and now Ganser is my new favorite band. They've been watching a lot of old Surrealist films, I think, which makes me love them even more:

Despite giving up the grog for Lent, PG has made an exception today and has just cracked open a bottle of Kilkenny that we are sharing (we couldn't get Guinness in bottles at the local supermarket, and TBH I prefer Kilkenny anyway). A few years ago, PG went to Ireland and hung out in the pub in West port, Co. Mayo owned by Chieftain Matt Molloy, so he's also just got out the CD he bought there of a typical Irish pub session, which we're dancing round to in the kitchen while he prepares dinner. Here's a link to a YouTube playlist of Matt Molloy's pub music. youtube.com/playlist?list=PL37wQstas8aplRpk7GHUJ31vTELLp9BB2

I have no idea what this track is, but I am here to announce that the DJ has switched from the bouncy pop pero likes to the noisy drone stuff I like
Oh wait it's Polvo -- I own this record, I just haven't listened to it since 1995 or something!

Listening to the radio from the University of California at Berkeley and they're playing strange, atmospheric electronica with whispery vocals, which I'm enjoying but have no idea what it is because their playlist app isn't working.

Liiisa, this song is 60 years old. I hadn’t even started school 🏫. I first heard it with Roberta Flack in the 70’s and fell in love with it. This version was recorded earlier by Peter, Paul, and Mary. The Flack version is the only one with an extra verse.

Ohhh I remember that song... it has Traumatic Associations because I was doing sound for a dance recital in 9th grade and the dance program teacher was going to do some interpretive dance to that song, and the tape deck quit working and I couldn't figure out what to do and there she was on stage in this uncomfortable position wondering what the hell I was doing.
Anyway huh - I had no idea the Roberta Flack version was a cover.

Remember Arcade Fire's first album, when they were good instead of their latest one which was terrible, what happened, it's so sad....
Anyway, back in the old days of 2004 this was my favorite song:
