Flowers and very fancy bread and baked delights from the French bakery.
And just ordered a new lampshade with leaves and exotic birds on it. Wonder if I will like it.

We have new bedsheets to put on this evening, but I'm mildly annoyed that they don't seem as soft as the ones I felt in the store.

Cable for lights, a couple of bulbs and special plaster for cellars that lets the moisture through.

Wooo lisamnz wins!
I bought new slippers because these are getting old and are all stretched out and fall off my feet if I'm not wearing socks.

An over the top shower caddy. Whatever happened to good old plastic ones? They’re all metal these days!
Congrats on the new car, Lisamz. Is it an electric model?

A new CAR!!! The long-range BYD Atto 3. Very exciting. I had to google that. Apparently, delivery has been paused to Australia due to an issue with the position of child seat attachments. Even the extended range isn’t long enough for some of my trips. We did about 900 km in one day with two drivers on our road trip to Kangaroo Island. How long do they take to charge?

I read somewhere that the batteries used on electric cars get 90% of their charge in the first 30 minutes, but the final 10% takes another 30 minutes or more? I could be wrong.

Depends on the car, Sprite. But yes, some batteries can be that way.
Phar - yes, full electric.
Ozzie - depends how far you drive it and what charger you use. On a fast charger, maybe 30, 40 minutes from nothing to 100%.
On our home charger, which is just 10amps, probably roughly overnight for a full charge. Our leaf takes about an hour, but we only do short trips in that - like maybe 50km. We could put in a faster charger at home, but there's really no issue leaving the car to charge overnight, so I don't really see the point.
There are some longer range EVs, but they are significantly more expensive than the Atto and only give you maybe 50, 60km more range.
The Atto will get us to Auckland on a single charge. Not that we'd often do that trip without stopping somewhere on the way for a break anyway.
And we no longer need isofix or anchor points for kids seats, so I haven't been keeping up with any of that.

As I thought, Australia still doesn’t have the infrastructure for fast charging in rural and remote areas, and with our greater distances, hybrids are still a better option for those of us who live and regularly travel in rural and remote areas. They are also at least $10,000 cheaper that a comparable fully electric vehicle. But great for those of us in New Zealand or Europe.

OUr charging infrastructure here isn't amazing - but obviously better than Aus (that's what you get for being such a massive bloody country!) but still, EVs really make sense mostly for people that can trickle charge overnight at home for the majority of their trips.

An Orla Kiely 500 ml drink flask. Unlike my old one, the lid doesn’t have a handle, but it doesn’t really matter and it’s the design I was looking for.

Spawn and his husband both have EVs, and that's what they do - mainly charge at home overnight, or at their workplace. When I visited them we drove around and did a lot of stuff and it was never an inconvenience - we went on a long trip to the beach so on the way back we stopped for a little while at a quick charging station to goose it up a little and then were off again.
But 1) they're in Portland, which has good infrastructure - I doubt it would be the same if they lived in rural Texas or something and 2) Spawn has a Tesla (not for any love of Elmo, rather that it was used and a good price).

Yeah, I think many people vastly overestimate how far they drive. Charging is an issue here. We will probably replace our car in 2 or 3 yrs, by which time good electrics will be available secondhand. but at the moment, we'd have to get planning permission and spend a lot of money tunnel out wiring to charge while parked on the street--not feasible. There's supposed to be plans to install chargers on street lights, but our city has also been working to make street lights solar powered, so that they will be 'free' and not go out in power cuts. I like the idea of street lamps as chargers, but there would have to be a mechanism to stop people from parking up for 12 hours and others not getting a chance to charge up.

Yeah, I think many people vastly overestimate how far they drive. When I first visited New Zealand, my friend and I were told by local New Zealanders that we would never get to some place or other in a day, it was too far. In fact we travelled more than twice that distance in the day. But then, we lived and worked in a town on the edge of the outback, 800 km from Sydney, and were used to driving to Sydney after school finished on a Friday night (with two or three drivers) when there was something interesting like a concert to go to on Saturday night.

To be fair, kiwi roads are narrower and windier than many Australian roads, even our major state highways... but I do also hear this quite a bit from people.

I like the idea of street lamps as chargers, but there would have to be a mechanism to stop people from parking up for 12 hours and others not getting a chance to charge up. In NZ, one of the major charging networks has just introduced 'idling fees' at a $1 a minute. That's pricy parking. But yes, that's one of the major issues I see in the UK - far fewer people have on-property parking, or it's been converted to more house space (soooo many converted garages), so people can't just charge at home like most can here. There was a recent incident here where a guy got in trouble for just laying his charging cable across the footpath to his car parked on the road to charge it, and he blamed it on the housing developer because he reckoned the garage wasn't big enough for his car. Cue outcry and criticism of whoever built a house that had a non-functional garage, then it was discovered that the main reason he 'couldn't fit his car in the garage' was because he had a freezer, beer fridge, four mountain bikes, and a load of other sports gear in it lol. Talk about first world problems.

Cappuccino, Chinese food
What I didn't pay for was parking? When I got back to my car this evening I saw that there wasn't any parking charge for today on the app, which is interesting since I remember setting it this morning. Well I won't complain!

That over the too shower caddy has to be returned. It arrived yesterday, the soap dish was alright but the two shelves above are at a 22.5° angle which means anything on those shelves will slide down to the left side! Doh!

Today I bought a bottle of Scotch. I've been having trouble getting off to sleep and thought that a wee dram before bed may have a therapeutic effect.

Today I bought a bottle of Scotch. I've been having trouble getting off to sleep and thought that a wee dram before bed may have a therapeutic effect. In theory, the alcohol metabolises into sugar and wakes us up later. In practice, when I did this, it was a nice little ritual along with reading something pleasant, thinking warm thoughts... Good luck. You need your sleep.

Just bought a concert ticket for tonight!
So now my day takes shape - some household tasks and a review of some music for a rehearsal tomorrow.
