I have natural pot set yoghurt with a "best before" of August 23, 2023. I made banana smoothies last week and it was fine. I'd make some more, but unfortunately my bananas have gone off.

August 2023! Here I was like uh-oh, tofu's "best by January 27," so it looks like dinner tonight is tofu

Sorry, missed you asking that. What did I do... I think I fried it up with onions, garlic, ginger, green pepper, mushrooms, tamari, sesame oil, threw in some walnuts, lots of black pepper, dumped it on brown rice

Sounds good! I'll plan to do more complicated things like that when I have more spare time this summer. Well, this summer I'll be busy. So, this fall. OK, next winter

If you don’t care for tofu, try tempeh.. I like it.. we don’t eat it very often as it’s not readily available here. It stir fries well also.

We just got a phone call from the place we bought a salad kit last week. The salad has been eaten. The recall is a voluntary one, with regards to a listeria issue with the Mexican cheese in the salad kit. I’m fine. My husband has had a low level gut ache for a few days and quite tired and almost flu-ey. Hmmm.

Oh yikes sophie. I hope it's just some normal thing and not Listeria.
On a happier topic from above - you know, I haven't had tempeh in decades. I used to slice it up really thin and cook it like bacon, but for some reason I just went off it.

Glad to hear he's ok, sophie!
We buy lettuce in those plastic containers, but not kits. But when I no longer have a full-time job I plan to go back to buying it loose and salad-spinning it.
Though I do love the baby spinach/arugula combo mix in the plastic container.

I opened a carton of long-life milk yesterday morning - it was within it's 'best by' date but it was lumpy. It did not smell sour so I used a bit on my breakfast cereal and morning coffee. I didn't like the look of the coffee so tossed it and the long-life milk and used a fresh bottle of milk. The breakfast cereal tasted cheesy, but I'm still here 36 hours later.
My guess is that the seal of the long-life milk had been broken at some time.

not old, but still questionable: my brother mentioned to my dad that he had some of the dried mushrooms my dad had given them (krause glucke), but that the dish they made tasted bitter, and whether it could have been the wrong mushroom. turns out though, they rehydrated the mushroom but then just added it to their pasta without actually cooking it first, so it was basically raw ... so it was fine - but i find it odd that he'd find a mushroom tastes bitter and just eats it anyway ...
