Sophie is heading to NYC soon, and shockingly, I've actually got travel coming up too.
So let's have a thread for our 2019 travel plans.
Share what's booked, what's in the planning stage, and what's in the dreaming stage.

OP first: Heading to Saudi Arabia next week, followed by a long weekend in Beirut, followed by 3 days in Paris. I'll be gone a bit over two weeks.
In April going to Salt Lake City with The Man.
In June I'm taking my sister to the west of Ireland for two weeks. I've got a good bit of that trip booked already because wow-the b & b's and hotels book fast in summer. All my other trips to Ireland have been early spring or in September/October where I never had to worry about having a place to stay.

Central coast in about two weeks. Nothing else planned. The dream is Canada - we have a guide book on the coffee table at the moment. Nothing concrete has been done in terms of even looking at a time to go. And let's face it, we have had that dream before and had to be realistic and say no when looking at expense etc.

Travel plans? No but I need some.
There are fuzzy plans to look at meeting up with some old friends as a few of us are turning round numbers (same as you incidentally I seem to remember, kneazle!), but nothing tangible and I'm annoyed with the uncertainty around flying out of the UK after the end of March with all this Brexit bollocks in the air.

I've booked an interesting trip around Baja California del Sur (Mexico) with a birding group (but this is a general naturalist trip) in early March.
We're going to New Mexico in August for a conference & to see friends who live there.
I still have the vague idea of going to England in the summer - haven't done anything about it, though.
Also will likely drive up to New England in the summer to see Spawn & co, and I'd like to see my aunt & uncle on the sheep farm.

Hhmmm - still undecided (you may remember a poll I did a while ago).
I really need to wait to see whether the extension to contract occurs, and that may not be until close to the time I might want to travel.
List of possibilities in my dreams are: Ethiopia Turkey Balkans somewhere Laos (again) Mauritius (again for me, not for him) Sri Lanka (again) And there's always Thailand (again!!!)
And then I want to go to UK again one day ...
So pretty much all in the dreaming stage

I'm very excited as one of my best friends from way back is going to be in Munich for 3 days at the beginning of April, coming from Brisbane. PG and I are going down to meet her and, as it happens to coincide with my Easter holidays, he and I might stay on for a few more days to go down to the Bavarian Alps to get some hiking in.

nothing planned yet. maybe Paris (were supposed to do that last year, but i get the sense mrmei is now hesitant because of the yellow vest demonstrations; need to look into how much that is disrupting the city for tourists).
a couple of days of Alpine hiking with a friend, probably. and travelling with mrmei in the summer but undecided yet when/where/etc.

I'll be in Paris the last few days of this month. The info from our State Department says the protests are mostly planned for and happening on Saturdays. Other than that their advice was the usual--stay away from demonstrations, follow local media, etc. Since I arrive on Saturday evening I'm crossing fingers it will be over for my few days stay.

I'm going to Bright for four nights for the Autumn Festival the first week of May. I go the "long" way around, east via Gippsland, overnight at Bairnsdale, then up the Alpine Way and over the mountain (Mt. Hotham). Once off the mountain the rest is easy.

Sooo, now that I can do a trip, I'm having trouble lighting on the right one. Working on a possible combination weaving/fiber workshop someplace where I've never been. Oaxaca Mexico has caught my attention. Northern hemisphere, not a ton of time change. And I have a milestone birthday to celebrate. Feeling frustrated with my local friends. Maybe just time to get away.

Tinaja, going somewhere you haven't been before is good, especially if your birthday falls during that time. And a "significant" one at that. Long after your holiday is over, think of all the memories that will come flooding back every Birthday!

Struggling with my planning. Maybe the fiber workshop just needs to be a different time.

Nothing. Nowhere. Nada. Zilch. no plans. Haven't been anywhere interesting for ten years, because that is when my body began to disintegrate. I am glad i had the wisdom and good sense to really get in as much as i could before i hit 70 - to over 60 countries. Initially i knew i would be travelling less because medical travel insurance would become exorbitant... but then one leg got mashed in Tahiti... and then the other leg on a local beach... and then the knees got gimpy... and then the slit throat thing, and then the cracked ribs.... Basically, i can't walk very far or very fast in comfort, and without breathing problems.... SIGH...so for me it is now second hand vicarious travel... i do haul myself to family weddings, and in the past ten hears got to one in Winnipeg (who in the right mind would WANT to go to wpg. in Feb...), and then to a fabulous Goth/Dr. Who wedding near Spokane, and now i get to travel to exotic VANCOUVER for a wedding in June!. So get your travelling in when you can, ladies
I thought i should put his on the complaint thread... but its my travel reality....

I "liked" the truth of that post, canayangel, not the reality of it! I promise in your honor to travel as much as I can in the next 10 years until I too turn 70 and start to fall apart.

Yep. I'm packing in all the travel I can at the moment. I've been really fortunate with my body's mechanics up to now, but recent shoulder and back issues have made me realise that I can take nothing for granted.
This trip is the first I've taken where I've had to take up people's offers of help to, say, get in and out of boats/carry stuff etc. Also the first time I've had to stop and think before booking an activity, to ask myself "will I be able to do this without hurting myself?" Hopefully this particular issue will be temporary, but at my age one can't assume that. It's depressing.

Having a chronic health condition means I have had to travel as if I am older for years. Things like have enough nights in each place and not move on every day. Have enough rest time included (didn't get that balance right in Japan, paid for it when we came back) Realise that the maximum I can spend out each day is 5 hours. You adapt, you find new ways to travel, you explore places closer to home. You read the fine print on activities. You study google street maps.

I'm with Canayangel in my thoughts on this. After my last big trip I sat down and did an indepth evaluation of what I could cope with, and what I couldn't and the answer is that any plans have to be very sedate now in comparison to what I used to cope with and sedateness comes at a much higher economical cost usually. Like C - very grateful that I've managed to pack in so much over the years, but realised that some of it has come at a health cost and I no longer bounce back like I used to. Leela - yes it is depressing.

I am just so happy that I had this last trip to NYC with no issues. After having a DVT 14 months ago, I was so very conscious of the possibility of no more plane travel. I figure I am good to go for a planned trip to LA and Mexico later this month. Maybe I will start dreaming again of other places I want to see!

I have to chime in on the age/health thing and travel. Fitness has never been a constant for me. I recall 2 times in Turkey losing my balance on ruins. Nothing bad happened other than embarrassment, yet it gives me pause on some travel. And that was 10 years ago. Longer ago than that I got a stress fracture, most likely from pounding the pavement with a 40lb back pack. I think the bottom line for me is going but immersing myself in a smaller location and not thinking I need to see everything, traveling as light as I can, and making days shorter. I hope that keeps me going for 20+ years more!!

one the most frustrating things for me, is that while i am now open to types of travel that i used to scorn (resorts, cruises) but they are not open to ME, a single traveller. Everything has to be done in pairs, or it becomes exorbitantly expensive.

One of the reasons I’m still working is so I can afford to travel at the level of comfort I need at my age. (That is apart from having skills and training in short supply). I’ve never been the athletic type, although my general health is good, but joint issues have slowed me down even further. Fortunately, I can comfortably drive in a variety of conditions, though I need recovery time after long trips now. And I break long flights with a two or three night stay somewhere in the middle.

I've got a work trip to Malawi in a week and another trip to Zimbabwe next month, and for the first time in my whole life I really don't want to go.

A quiet year for us this year. We did a weekend up the Central Coast at the end of January. Still tossing up doing something for Easter but hesitant to travel too far from home in case I have the same pregnancy complications that I had last time. We may do a last minute night or two if all is going according to plan.
We are planning on going back to Wales to see our family in the second half of the year. I would like to go in September when the weather is warmer but MrCat prefers to go at Christmas so he doesn't have to take too much extra leave. We can't book anything until CrazyKitten2 arrives so we will have the argument then.

I went to Goa for two weeks last month. Feels like 1,000 years ago already. Am grateful that I got to go and enjoy it tho.
I have booked a long weekend in Venice coming up in April but aside from that I don’t have anything else booked just yet.
My OH has a significant birthday this year so we are planning on marking the occasion with travel wherever possible.
