So glad you’re feeling better, groo.
I’m jealous of the people who get to see the eclipse.

So glad you’re feeling better, groo. I’m jealous of the people who get to see the eclipse. Me too! I mean, I'm going to be here for it, but now the weather forecast is for it to be mostly cloudy here, so that plus the fact that it's only going to be 87% occluded here means it isn't going to be that big of a deal. But I have my glasses!

I watched the NASA city-by-city livestream until it was near maximum, 93%, in my area, then went outdoors for about half an hour for the direct view, long enough to really see the movement of the sun and moon through my special glasses.
I wanted to get a glimpse of the real thing since I'm not likely to be around for the next one in 20 years.

No major findings during my colonoscopy yesterday and they also gave me an iron infusion which I'm hoping will make a huge difference to my energy levels.

was kind of nice when i picked up a. from a birthday party, and the weather was really nice and summer like and they had this big area with trees and grass next to the house (like, surrounded by several tall houses, so hidden from sight), where all the kids were playing ... they were reenacting fight scenes from different books and tv shows they liked, about ten kids, and it looked like a strange choreography, not really like fighting, and they were completely immersed in it ...

I'm not normally a huge fan because they are derby rivals, but super happy that neighbouring football team Bayer Leverkusen has broken the incredibley boring 10 year grip that Bayern München (the team I hate with a passion) has had in the Bundesliga, and that Leverkusen has won this year's championship.

I found 3 groups of asparagus, two of which I'd lost. I found 3 potatoes growing, two more that I'd set aside for planting, and dug up 3 more that can be replanted.
AND I found a very good recipe for cornbread. Going to be buying a pork belly next weekend, just so I have enough fat for the cornbread.

Being able to spend quality time with my sister and brother-in-law from the other side of the country. They will start their journey back west tomorrow, so I’ve given them some suggestions of where to stay and visit between here and Broken Hill. They’re travelling relatively slowly, towing their caravan. Because they’ve been here since Friday (staying in a caravan park downtown), they were even able to get their car serviced here today, while my sister visited Spotlight, and brother-in-law browsed BCF.

Basking in the afterglow of a wonderful weekend music festival devoted to Johannes Okeghem, a composer who was born about 600 years ago in what's now Belgium. Great combination of scholarship, performance, good company and good food, plus local, easy to attend, and good parking for early birds like me. I am a happy camper!

Some unexpected student bookings, including one via a former student, so I'll be busier than expected. It's been a very quiet month, work wise, so this is good.

I'm going to a 'secret' gig on Thursday with a couple of people I met last week. You find out the exact location the day before and don't know who is playing till you arrive. Seems like a good way to hear 3 new artists and tickets are very reasonably priced.

after almost seven months in hospital and rehabilitation, mom returned home today. she seems to have gotten there well (as my brother and sister in law were working, my other brother went there to welcome her and help her settle in). spoke to her in the evening and she seemed well, said she is busy putting order into everything. her cat, lily, apparently just kind of took it all as normal and was sleeping on the arm chair next to her.
