A movie buff friend isn't impressed with Dune, but he admits that he mostly liked the first movie for the costumes (or lack thereof). Apparently, the original film was supposed to be 10 or 12 hours? I can't remember, but apparently there was quite a lot of bad feeling between the director and the studio over the final cut.

Spencer with Kirsten Stewart as Lady Diana, the movie was so boring, I even fell asleep for about 10 minutes. Stewart's acting was good though, she'll probably get an Oscar nomination.

Went to see No Time to Die with a friend on Sunday. Bond has certainly evolved. It was a long movie, but engrossing. One of the minor bad guys reminded me of a former boss. Women are now taking a much more active role. Can I predict, now that the Doctor is female, the new 007 will also be.

Watched the Power of the Dog on netflix as I couldn't be bothered to go to the movies when it came out last month.
Kinda wish I did see it at the movies as it was just so damn 'visual' that I think a big screen would have been best. Very good movie. I watched it with my flatmate and we both talked about it afterwards...what we thought and what we picked up with it. I haven't chatted about a movie like that in ages. Well not a conversation that didn't start with "why the feck are we watching this?".
Great movie but also one I was thankfully in the right mood to see.

Yes, I watched Power of the Dog yesterday. A very dark movie (both mood wise and the fact that the cinema photography is also so shadowy).
One particular nod to Jane Campion's earlier work that I enjoyed was when the guys were gingerly carrying in the piano into the big house when Rose moves in.

The hills reminded me of a Rita Angus painting. It was filmed in an area she used to paint but I do wonder if the connection was more than just coincidental. The similarities were striking.

Wondering if I should see the new version of West Side Story or just watch the original again at home. It's getting really good reviews, apparently they've based it more on the original show than the movie.

Watched the remake of "The Secret Garden" on Amazon Prime.
The young actress that plays the part of Mary is very good, but other than that I was disappointed. Why does the garden look nothing like Yorkshire, where it's supposedly set? Why do the English children use words like "tardy" and chores"? What's with the computer-generated robin? Why is there no real Colin-learning-to-walk scene, which is one of the centrepieces of the book?
Hmph.

I saw that a while ago, and thought the garden was way too fantastical. It was one of my favourite childhood books.

Don't Look Up.
It's heartbreaking and funny and terrifying and I fear for the world. I've seen very mixed reviews but I thought it was very well done and would definitely recommend everyone to see it.

I actually watched a movie the other day: Being the Ricardos. I thought it very good, but then I watch very few movies all the way through. If it holds my attention all the way through, I figure it’s good!

Just watched a completely bizarre dystopian film called The Lobster, in which single people are given forty-five days to find a new partner, or they’re turned into an animal.

It’s a cold wet Election Day, so now that I’ve voted, I’m snuggled up on the recliner crocheting a blanket and watching a classic disaster movie. Deep impact. Notable points: Elijah Wood as the young scientist who discovered the comet that is about to hit earth, and Morgan Freeman as the President. When New York gets hit by a tidal wave, the twin towers are still there, because the movie was made in 1998. And the nuclear bomb expert on the spaceship sent to attempt to deflect the comet is a Russian.
