Oppenheimer. I’m starting to think politicians witch-hunting scientists is a recurring theme. Personally, I’m thinking I trust the scientists more than the pollies or the military.

I was a My Little Pony girl... I had Sindy dolls, they were British dolls and a bit more normal shaped than Barbie.

"Best in Show"
I decided to catch up with all the Christopher Guest comedies from the last century that I never got around to seeing. It wasn't particularly subtle or "I can't breathe" kind of hilarious, but had some very amusing moments and a nice ending. The dogs were adorable.

Liisa, I remember laughing a lot through that movie.. maybe because I’m a dog owner and know some folks who are completely into the dog competition end of things

It made me want a Norwich terrier - that little Winky was so adorable.

Julie and Julia. Interesting movie, although not one of Meryl Streep ‘s best, in my opinion. I think she overacted. I liked Julia ‘s husband.

The Holdovers. Well worth it. I went with a friend, and we laughed or snorted quite a lot. She used the word 'tender' to describe it, and I think that is accurate. It wasn't sweet, but there were moments when I just wanted to hug some of the characters.
Also, I had total empathy with the teacher. "Vulgar Barbarians!"

Tár
in my continued attempt to Catch Up With Recent Interesting-looking Films
It was a little long, but I guess they needed that much time to fully develop the character and her downfall. I enjoyed it for the music - must listen to Mahler a little more often. The final scene was quite amusing.

Saw Poor Things last night, and I really enjoyed it. It's pretty grotesque a lot of the time, but once I relaxed and just went with it, it was funny and clever and so well done!

That does sound good. How does it rate on the Vomit/Cannibalism scale?

There is one vomit but it's not graphic or gross. Zero cannibalism.
Some really gross stabbing and cutting bodies, though.

Outbreak, 1995 disaster movie, starring Dustin Hoffman and Morgan Freeman as two army doctors. Reinforced my view that the military should never be allowed to be in charge of anything.

"Gloomy Sunday" (Ein Lied von Liebe und Tod), 1999
My mom is slightly obsessed with movies about World War II, and so she found this and invited me over to watch it the other day. It's one of those films where there's a scene at the beginning set in the present, and then you see all the events in the past that lead up to that happening (which makes you kinda want to see it a second time). The past is 1930s Budapest: the beginning is happy (love triangle with a beautiful waitress and a restaurant owner and a pianist), but it gets sadder as the events we all know about transpire.
I thought it was great.

Ghostbusters Afterlife, purely because it was on and I felt like watching a movie. It felt a bit like a Stranger Things rip-off (possibly because one of the main characters was one of the kids from that show). The ending was good though and a nice throwback to the original film.

Wicked Little Letters
A dark story, but omg so funny. Extraordinary cast. Very much women in the lead, lots of fun. I'd watch a sequel involving the same characters (won't be one - it's based on real events).
There is a lot of swearing, but it's elevated to an art form.

Jack Reacher. Murder mystery that is definitely NOT my preferred style.
