I think that's where I came across it too, at least in some US book which mentioned 'tardy slips'.

I just did some googling and apparently in 1912 it was "not much used in English prose" but was "constantly employed in the U.S and in Canada with reference to lateness in school-attendance".
So you probably did learn it in LHotP.
And I guess my memory has lumped together words i picked up from "old fashioned" kids books with words picked up from English kids books.

The new Top Gun film (not my choice).
What can I tell you, if you've seen the original you don't need to see this one. About 30 mins in I knew I wouldn't enjoy it.

When we arrived to visit mom-of-pero this morning she was watching an appalling film on the Lifetime Network, "Killer in the Guest House," where this woman, Gina, has a hunky ex-military tenant living in her guest house and a creepy ex who's trying to rip her off. At first you think hot tenant is going to save the day but then the tenant started beating creepy ex on the head with a shovel - yikes. Time to turn the tv off.
RUN, GINA, neither of these guys represent good life choices. Watching that film is not a good life choice either.

See How They Run. Stylishly done, not very long, worth watching.

While I’m on holidays and intermittently stuck in the house with builders taking over half of it, I’m watching some of the movies I’ve recorded over the last few years and never watched. So far: San Andreas, disaster movie with earthquakes and a tsunami, with a completely improbable rescue and some poor continuity. The Golden Gate Bridge was destroyed by the earthquake, then a few scenes later, it was destroyed by a ship on a tsunami wave, while cars were still crossing. Elizabeth is Missing , poignant movie in which a woman with dementia solves the cold case of her sister’s murder, while thinking her friend was missing. It could well be triggering for some people.

See How They Run. Stylishly done, not very long, worth watching. Oh good, we are planning to see that in the school holidays. There is a chain here that takes Covid protections really seriously and list how many clear air exchanges they do an hour, plus have a link to research paper about clean air on their website. Palace, for the other Australians.

Another recorded movie, Hampstead, about a widow whose husband left her in financial difficulties. She meets an apparent squatter, while her friends try to fix her up with a very creepy accountant who will provide services for free…

Argentina 1985
Available on Amazon Prime. A film based on the real events of the trial of the military junta following the end of the Argentine dictatorship. If you're interested in the era, this is very accurate, very well done.

I just watched a silent movie that I saw an ad for in the 1922 New York Times called "Tess of the Storm Country." It's actually quite radical in many ways, at least in contrast to the way that I would assume movies in 1922 would be - an unwanted pregnancy, class struggle issues - kind of a lefty Christian movie that ends on Christmas day.

I watched The Goldfinch - the adaptation of the Donna Tartt novel. It's rather slow until the end (but then, the book itself is huge, so!). The young Theo actor is very good.

Who cares about the Oscars anymore. They've made themselves irrelevant.
I finally watched "Everything, Everywhere, All At Once." It deserves all the accolades. It was so clever and complex and packed with amazing performances.

I think Heroic Trio is the first thing I saw her in. I still think it was one of the best Hong Kong movies I've seen.

The Outfit. Clever twists, great performance from Mark Rylance but it did seem more like a stage play.

Wyatt Earps Revenge. I enjoy a good western now and again, on top of which I was too tired to choose or suggest any other films, and wasn't feeling very clever, and had seen everything else on TV.
It was not a good western. It made no sense at all. An eldery and reflective Wyatt Earp is telling his emotional origin story to a reporter, who of course, is part of it, but we, the audience, can't possibly guess that. Nope.
Man's Girlfriend dies in gunshot accident. Man risks own life and career to capture responsible party. Man's friends also risk own lives and career. To avenge death of Friend's Girlfriend. Whom none of them have met.
There are 4 women in the entire movie. They take up about 7 minutes of the entire film. Girlfriend gets the most screen time, but she is dead for about 1/3 of that. 95% of the emotion is provided by the orchestra.
I mean, if you were really into Val Kilmer circa 2012, go for it.
