They sell that brand at the co-op, but I've never bought it. I remember reading that rural people used neem twigs as a toothbrush, so then I guess putting neem oil in the toothpaste would be based on that? I have no idea what peelu is.

There was an interesting bit about that concept and ‘wellness’ on Vice the other night.. even an interview with Gwynth Paltrow about Goop.

she's pretty unapologetic about her nonsense, heard an interview with her a couple of weeks ago.
looking at spa days for me, sister, and mom. one place offers 'quantum thought therapy' and also some sort of hypnotherapy--but with a wacky name. i'm not sure how anyone books one of those with a straight face. i suspect i'd probably try the therapies if they didn't have such ridiculous names.

So does tumeric, but we'd have to eat a pound a day to even get a small benefit.

A friend is worried about plans to create lab meat; meat which would be molecularly identical to the cut it was imitating.
She's worried that our bodies will know it's synthesized, and therefore not digest it.

So does tumeric, but we'd have to eat a pound a day to even get a small benefit. and it has to be fried in oil to release whatever the good stuff is. SiL raves about the positive health effects of Tumeric.... and then goes outside for a quick cigarette. Sometimes I have to concentrate really hard on biting my tongue while not rolling my eyes.

The sound bath sounds like it might be quite relaxing, although so is lying in the garden in spring listening to birdsong and that's free.

See, I know people who do that stuff regularly, but they're Native/First Nations so it's part of their real life. i feel queasy when i see outsiders jumping on the sweat lodge trend.
although i would like to try drumming--it always looks like a whole lot of emotion goes out through the drum.

It's actually a Native American ritual hut used for purification. Pre-Colombian natives of the Americas used many native rituals to heal and worship.
It's been adopted and abused by quacks to fake spirituality to a dangerous extent. People have died because of ignorance.

A lot of native Americans used to burn tobacco in the sweat lodges. I bet the new age types have abandoned that practice.

I get the the heebie jeebies whenever someone raves about a "native American" tradition. That's like saying "a European tradition" and few thinking individuals would assume all European ppl think the same!
