I've spent more of my spare time this week hacking back weeds and cutting dead stuff off of living things. the main culprit has been bramble--blackberry. which i love, but not in every inch of my garden.
i've just realised that there's a wall of English Ivy, and not a whiff of bramble in it. I have found bramble growing in every other shrub/bush/plant/space--but not in the Ivy.
do they hate each other that much?

Our puzzle today: what did the dog get into?
He's got diarrhea. He's not happy he's not getting food as he still has an appetite and is full of his usual energy.

My puzzle - why did I see a gent in desert type camouflage standing in what appeared to be the turret of a tank and driving along Victoria Rd yesterday. There was too much traffic to see if it was an actual mini tank, or a car /ute dressed up as a tank. Though the quick impression I got (was driving the other way) was that he was not at the back of the vehicle, which stops the idea of ute. And he seemed the wrong height to be doing sun roof.

There's a very big tank beside Victotia Rd just before it goes under the railway line at West Ryde. Perhaps it has spawned.

Is there a base nearby? in my parents' hometown, it's not unusual to see a tank driving around with Learner plates.

my f-i-l has just revealed that in the late 60s, he kept a magpie. in a cage. in his house.
he has no explanation. he did, sometimes, let it out. not surprisingly, it destroyed things.

What version of the book I am currently reading one of the reviewers on goodreads read. As I am up to Chapter 17 and still struggling to find the bits that are 'riddled with curse words'. Only 'swear words' I have noted so far are 'gosh dang', 'dang', 'flipping heck' and talking about smacking someone on their bee-hind. There were exclamations of Jesus Christ as well - which is probably what really set the reviewer off.
The poor innocent kids who have to read this book :eyeroll: I have been taking great delight telling LC he is not allowed to say dang anymore.

There's a candidate for office here whose last name is Dang, which I have to admit cracks me up though I guess that's a little culturally inappropriate. But every time I see one of their signs I can't help thinking "Dang!"

Reread the review - the person gave up before reaching 100 pages. I am way beyond that and still haven't struck anything worse than dang (and a Jesus Christ twice, both times in response to news of major accidents).
Mind boggling.

They are both equally invasive i will now introduce you to my new 'friend,' Himalayan Balsalm. feck me. Heh. You should listen to the last ten mins or so of the latest Gardeners' Question Time (from Southwell) - whole bit about getting rid of / living with plants you don't want. Original question was about how much concrete it would take just to cover the whole lot.

I am 38 years old.
I am unable to tell if I have allergies flaring up or the start of a flu or cold (cold likely).
But seriously. How can I not tell the difference yet?

i know that in north america, 'jesus christ' seems to be a more serious expression than in the UK, but if used only twice... hmm. i do know people who would stop reading if they saw it once or twice.

My exclamation of 'Christ on a Stick' gets horrified looks.
Which is why it's one of my go to ones as I rarely if ever curse.

I'm a learner driver. I am struggling with driving what seems to be the last manual car in the country. But at least I am not learning to park a tank.
Where do you parallel park a tank? Anywhere you feel like.

I'm puzzled because the terrible novel about cowboys riding hippos in the American South that I abandoned after 10 pages earlier this year was nominated for a Nebula award! What the hell.

a work thing. A bunch of us have taken on coordinating tasks to develop our new curriculum starting september. one person will be on maternity leave soon, so we're looking for someone to take over her work. thought we had a colleague join, except it now turns out this colleague won't. apparently it's a money issue. i don't know about the rest but it hadn't even occurred to me to ask for more money doing this task. why does my brain not even function that way?
(on the other hand, it wouldn't have helped in this situation I think). (oh, and just for fun, guess genders of the people involved...)

i think some of us are too loyal to our work, and willingly take on work for free. which, in small doses, i think can be really powerful. but do it too much, and people end up feeling like they've been taken advantage of, or employers begin to see those extra tasks as part of the normal workload.
