What exactly did they do? I forget now exactly, to do with knowing who had to be where and when and being nice to everyone I think. BBC article about the whole story here. I get the impression the roles they had differed from sport to sport. Thank you. To me what I saw is demeaning and sexist!

For those who eat their shampoo?
On a semi related note saw that an antiseptic cream contained almond oil - there was no nut warning on the product that I could see, just noticed it listed on the front. So another section where I have to read all the ingredients listed!

Am I packing wrong? Seriously. I bought a 'maximum cabin bag' sized bag - 44l rucksack. It's maybe 70% full for a week's trip. 90% if I put my handbag in there too - which I am permitted to carry as well.
1 week in the south of france - weather in the low to mid 20s. Including what i'm wearing tomorrow it's 2 skirts, 2 trousers, 2 dresses, 7 assorted tops, 1 long sleeved shirt, 1 cardi, 2 scarves, 3 bras, knickers. I could take less, but nice dinners. 1 sandals, 1 shoes. Toiletries. Plus kindle, sunglasses, diary, notebook, all that stuff. 7kg. The limit is 10, not inc handbag.
And I will show up at the airport tomorrow and see women with huge suitcases. Either I'm missing something, or they are.

you could teach me ... a. and i will go to the alps again in july, and after a week there directly to croatia for two weeks (well, via munich) - and so i'll have to figure out how to pack for her and myself, so i can still carry it up the mountain (well okay, some things for croatia i can leave for mr. r., as he joins us for that part of the trip) ... even for shorter trips, i always end up with a full backpack and some stuff i couldn't fit ...

It's a lot heavier if you have to pack for cold weather.

I was about to tell a story, but I think this packing thing should be its own thread: it has potential. So I'm off to do that now.

You do not need 2 each of skirts, trousers and dresses and 7 tops. One of each, plus maybe three tops. You're packing enough for a year! Oh, and have a great trip!

I also have no idea what those people have packed. Hair straighteners, likely.
Why do I wake.up with a sore throat every morning?

I bring a hair straightener when I'm traveling someplace where I have to look respectable (I have a little travel-sized one), and I STILL have half the luggage that everyone else has.

Does air blow on you at night? Or is the room too dry?

I'm pretty sure I'm accurate blaming my sore throat on the local cotton gin, but I suspect you don't have one where you live.

why is it so hard for a tired child to fall asleep, when it is so easy to me, that i keep falling asleep when all i want to do is lie with her a little bit, so she calms down (which she doesn't)?

How someone who expressed his complete and utter heartbroken devastation just 3 weeks ago about his marriage ending is now plastering photos all over Facebook of the date he went on on Saturday night with the ex-girlfriend he has suddenly (??) "reconnected with".

My town actually has a main street with several pubs. There is one with updated decor and seems clean. One of my friends disses it any chance she gets. Of course when asked she lame ass comes up with something. I have been there multiple times. Good food each time.

I'd always been rather amused and puzzled by the description of someone unskilled in the kitchen as not knowing how to boil water.
I have met this person! I asked him to boil up water for two people, one tea and one coffee. I wondered why this was taking so long. I went into the kitchen for another reason and found three reasons why:
#1 the kettle was brim full #2 the burner was on only halfway #3 the kettle was not centered over the flame
I am puzzled by my ability not to make a scene.
He is OK at other stuff... (home health care worker, FYI)

How adding someone as an additional named driver on my new car insurance policy means a reduction in the overall annual cost, despite the fact that said driver is a) not resident in the UK and b) has a German licence (both of which I was upfront with to the insurance provider about). It does make me wonder if the reason is because said additional named driver is of the male persuasion?!?!

The male persuasion? I had no choice, but am nonetheless quite comfortable with the arrangement.
Are residents of Germany better drivers than those in Britain? Their cars are certainly better.

I would say so, Groo, given that the requirements for learning to drive and taking the driving test are FAR more stringent in Germany than Britain (in Britain, learner drivers aren't ALLOWED to drive on the motorways - WTAF? How are they going to get important motorway experience then??) I've noticed that German drivers are far more observant and think ahead more about what other drivers are doing (or going to be doing) around them than British ones. British ones are more polite though.

There you go then! There's a whole section on how to reduce motor insurance costs (legally) on the moneysavingexpert site, and one of the tips is to add a 'safer' driver to your policy.

But snowwhite, I'm still puzzled because PG doesn't have any driving history in the UK either. Seems like the only variables that would make him any safer to the insurance company is that he's 5 years older and is a man!!!

stoopit question: if you live and work in germany, why is your insurance with a UK company?
(also, motorway practice is going to be added on for learner drivers. i don't understand why they aren't just put on VR machines for the first 50 hours of practice before going out in public??)

All of it, apart from 1 scarf. I was hot, I sweat, I didn't have to do laundry. Didn't need the notebook. Could have got away with less, but it's nice to get back to the hotel and shower and out on something fresh before dinner. Would have taken the same amount for 2 weeks and washed stuff. Cardi was only needed for the plane.

hm, my backpack is stuffed, and i was going to say i have about the same (except no skirts or dresses or scarves, so less). but then i forgot the same again for a., and rain gear and climbing gear and books and toys for the train journey and snacks for hiking and train and diapers and towels and camera and ... well, the backpack is very full and i don't know how far i'll have to carry it to the backpack-lift. theoretically i should have a backpack i can carry all the way up. so i suppose i am puzzled at how anyone ever manages that, packing for a week so they can carry it, all the way ...
