I’ve been menopausing for 11 years now. I can’t do hormones because my sister had breast cancer 30 years ago. And now, at the great old age of 61, I’m too old.🙄 So I’m trying gabapentin. It’s 300 a day, taken at night, and whooop, I’ve been sleeping up to 6 hours at a time! It has def cut back on my hot flashes/flushes! Possible increase in brain fog, dry mouth in the morning, but that’s ok with me. I also have had pains in my thumb pads not related and they have gone away too. Cautiously optimistic.

I had super itchy thumbs, I'm blaming that on menopause. damned thumbs.
I'll have a look at gabapentin too, never hurts to have more options!

This brilliant rendition of “Menopause Rhapsody” is clever, witty and I dare say true. Enjoy.

Where does that come from? I'd heard the opposite, and a quick search just now suggests that some people find it helpful. Logically, if soy is bad for menopausal women, NE Asia is screwed.

The issue of soy comes up sometimes with breast cancer, with the logic being it can mimic oestrogen. As far as I have read, this doesn't stand up to scrutiny.
Asian women have lower levels of breast cancer despite eating a lot of soy, but they also have lower risk factors in particular regarding obesity.

Those of you on HRT, did you have any testing first to see how low your hormone levels were?

Those of you on HRT, did you have any testing first to see how low your hormone levels were? As it goes... but the treatment should be for symptoms, not for hormone levels*. I had some sort of blood test a while back, but nobody ever contacted me about it afterwards so who knows what the results were or what they indicated. Then I popped back to my GP the other week, and said I have these symptoms. He mumbled about a blood test, I pointed out I'd already had one. He asked me about family history of early menopause. I said dunno, and what do you mean 'early' 45-55 is normal right? He asked me the date of my last menstrual period, I said 1st March and I got a prescription. Can't say I've noticed much diff 10 days in, and fatigue is a bit hard to judge given the weekend I've just had I'd be knackered anyway. We shall see. * I was sharing a room with a 47 y-old former nurse over the weekend, and this is what she said.

Yes, but then some of the symptoms are invisible, like bone density and heart health. So as I have minor symptoms, I'd like to get the HRT, but my brain wonders if it's possible to have too much?
My GP suggeested that NHS Scotland doesn't test at all for hormones, just a well-woman check for cholesterol etc.

I got HRT and mini pill prescribed ( was on combined pill) due to the endless bleeding which then turned out to be polyps which got surgically removed.
Since then - two months - no bleeding but no idea if this is down to combination of HRT patch and minipill or if it is the menopause. TO be honest I don't really care, my mood is stable, no ups and downs due to hormonal changes, and I even feel the downs for other reasons are easier to deal with. So bring on artificial hormones thank you very much. No bloodtest - although they did one before surgery - but they check my blood pressure - or ask me to check it which is kind of funny. Artificial hormones are making me very happy I have to say. Bring them on!
Somebody asked if insomnia is down to menopause - I say no, I struggled with it for a long time, and it's gotten much worse during Covid, and now the bad pain in my hips is keeping my awake. There are other reasons as well, but none of them are menopause related.

That might have been me asking! Everytime I read something about menopause, it seems there's yet another bizarre symptom that comes from the hormonal imbalance. My mom, for example, had a super dry mouth. Drove her nuts.

The way I understand it - the mini pill and HRT patch suppress all menopause symptoms, so I don't even know if I am in menopause or not. Which is just ok with me, have enough other health shit to deal with right now!
My Mum didn't start menopause until she was 53, and then was on HRT - obviously back then not as advanced and harmless as today - so we don't have much family history. My sister is in per menopause at 46 (blood test with hormon levels done) and is now also on the mini pill. She has other health issues that made it necessary.

My paternal grandmother was on HRT for several years with no problems, but also had better access to the better doctors in our area. I do sort of wish she was around now, because I suspect she'd have some strong opinions about the care and advice available. My mom was having strong symptoms from the age of 41, and the HRT patch she was given didn't work very well. I'm well past that age and only have mild symptoms. My sister is nearly that age but has other health issues that, I think, will make her hard for her to know when she's hitting perimenopause.
It's wierd.

So today i have a back pain that I haven't had in 2 years, and so strongly that if I move the wrong way I gasp. CUrrently slathered in Deep Heat (A535!). And I've been hit by a wave sadness, to the point that I'm afraid to look out the window because a squirrel on its hind legs may make me cry.
Blaming menopause. Resisting the bar of chocolate hidden in my desk.

Vagina- what not to do:
So, while in Poland, I looked up some beauty/aesthetics places online. And one of the treatments they have….listen to this: Vagina rejuvenation. Me, always curious, always proactive, booked it. It’s supposed to help menopausal women in areas such as tightening, improving moisture, and urine incontinence.
My pussy is healthy, no drynes issues, but I do leak few drops when I sneeze for example. This is since giving birth. Not big amounts but I hate it. Having a full blade is a bit tricky too.
And I always heard that there is nothing that can me done, unless it’s a big problem and requires surgery.
So, I go.
They used Mona Lisa touch . Done by a gyno. Decent price They told me that I should have a series of 3 treatments, then use globules wirh tiny amounts of hormones- it’s supposed to keep those walls healthy and results long lasting etc…. I took two out of three treatments, all good, no side effects, i don’t think I leak anymore, but it’s hard to say because it was an occasional thing- so not fully sure if the treatment was effective
However……
My vagina is too tight now!!!! Like wtf? I didn’t know until I came home and had sex wirh my husband. Like seriously?!?!
So, yeah , that Treatment worked , it’s just that I didn’t need that part fixed.

I've heard about the stuff you can apply directly to the vagina, for hormones taht don't enter the system. It's marketed in the UK as 'Gina.' haha.
But never heard of 'Mona Lisa'.

MonaLisa is the laser they use to tighten the tissue.
The globules are just those with estrogen or som other hormone shit.

Gyno explain that bladder and vagina and uterus are such a balanced system of holding everything together that when things change and the angle is a bit off- problems start. Often after pregnancy because of muscle strain. So when the “rejuvenate” vag walls, it helps the other parts.
You will be happy to know that my c..nt is better now and I was able to have sex. So I guess it was a temporary thing.
So far I didn’t drip any urine, but how do I know if it worked…. It’s not like I was dripping daily.
