Wow! The end of that "everybody has it, who cares" sentence is "... if someone who's elderly or immunocompromised catches it and ends up on a ventilator because of me"
I still miraculously don't know anyone with it right now.

And nobody acknowledges long Covid. I have the feeling most people here just want to put their head in the sand and forget about the horrible last years and get on with their life and treat Covid like it would be just a cold.
I seem to be the odd one out who is still keen on not getting it which is why I was so annoyed that this person attended a meeting with social services (if they catch it they will spread it everywhere!!!) and didn't isolate. I understand that the welfare of the child in question was important but surely the health of the social worker is as well, especially considering they have contact with so many people???

At the very least, they could have let the social worker know, so they could wear masks (if possible) and ensure good spacing/ventilation.

Vaccination #5 today. Pfizer. No side effects so far, and I had flu in the other arm.
So far, Astra Zeneca twice, Pfizer, Moderna, Pfizer.

They're releasing a new bivalent covid vax, including the latest variant, in the US. Eligibility includes people over age 65, so I will look into it. I'll get it when it's locally available - not going to go running around.
So far some combination of paranoia (mild) and good luck has protected me. Yesterday my seniors' group met indoors at someone's house. The hostess requested that people test before coming over. I was glad to oblige and tested negative. My choir rehearsals are now mask optional but stay home if exposed or symptomatic - for now.
Progress.

I met a friend in the supermarket on the way home. Every time she wants to get a booster, she gets a mild case of covid. Her job includes distribution of food parcels, so she has a fair bit of random public contact.

Two days on, I’m a bit tireder than usual, and my arm is sore/itchy.

More than 3 years since the start of the pandemic, my workplace announced the end of the last measures today (requirement to report infection). Covid is henceforth to be treated as any other illness.

Clipper was saying his workplace still allows half a day off for a booster, as that allowance hasn't been removed by the government yet.
Which will make it easier for him to get a Novavax one, as it isn't offered anywhere near his work, and the local place doesn't offer it on his WFH days.

We still have to report positive Covid test at work and work from home if not ill, but cases seem to have dropped again. Pretty much business as usual, and no requirement for testing but we can still get free test kits and are encouraged to use them if we feel ill or have been in contact with somebody with Covid.

Oh yes, this doesn't apply to me but there are still more generous allowances of leave allowed for parents of young children this year if the kids are sick (usually you get up to 10 days paid if your kid has a doctor's note but for this year it is still loads, 30 days or something).

Well, this is not something offered in the UK anyway...sigh! Not being a parent it doesn't affect me, and for my sister in Germany it only helps for her partner who is employed - she is self employed so whenever she needs time off she looses income.

Yes, we had the note at the start of this term noting increasing Covid cases again, and to please keep your child home if they show symptoms. I've heard Without that leave offer, many would be unable to have the time off with younger kids.

At least one school in Sydney has switched back to partial remote learning as too many staff and students are sick/absent. (some classes can go in, others are at home). And the education department of NSW has mandated masks for staff at the school and requested it for students.
Covid still causing issues in terms of absences.
LC and I were a bit stunned today to see the AP was filling in for one of his absent teaches today. There have been so many absences of staff this week, and teachers who have said they will be out for one week and set work accordingly are still absent well into the next week.

And, the class that was taken by the AP was a combined class with two different grades.
LC's history class is having a Holocaust survivor come to talk to them next week - I sort of want it to be cancelled. I'd hate to think this poor guy survived the camps and then gets taken out by a bunch of school kids with Covid.

Jude is currently in an aged care facility - more about that one day when I feel like replyim=ng to the "Where is Groo" thread, but her floor is currently shut down with 3 covid cases, a second closure in the last month.
She herself came down with covid at Murwillumbah hospital last year, but was asymptomatic.

groo - all the best to Jude. I just got my second bivalent booster last week. I have a college reunion coming up which I'd like to attend. I expect the crowd to be highly vax-compliant, but I'll feel a bit more relaxed with the latest jab. Lots of events are going to be outdoors in tent-pavillions. Since Mr.W's death people have been urging me to move to a retirement village, which I am nowhere near ready to do, if ever. It's easier to answer "not yet" than just plain no. But all of the much touted activities, socializing, lovely dining halls, etc., have been suspended several times and residents have been confined to quarters, no visitors allowed, blah-blah-blah. As long as I can drive, I can manage, come and go as I please. Yes, it's lonely sometimes, but I'm not handing over control of my entire life. (Stomps not-so-tiny foot!)

Our retirement villages are now pretty relaxed, with no restrictions I’m aware of. The residents are pretty independent, can come and go as they please, and have visitors. The one I visit tomorrow also has 3 residential aged care facilities in the complex, which have much stricter protocols, which vary according to the level of covid in the community.

I might have to do a test - had an upset tummy for two days and nearly fainted last night when I tried to get up to go to the loo (basically fell flat back into bed and the whole room was spinning like crazy, and it took 5 minutes until I could sit up unassisted). Covid didn't even occur to me, I was wondering if it had anything to do with the new magnesium supplement I am taking to help with muscle cramps and restless legs at night!

Negative. Phew.
Still don't know why I nearly fainted tonight though, it was very weird. Still feeling a bit dizzy now but thankfully working from home.

I hope it isn't too! Though I've had episodes of vertigo like that occasionally for years; had it checked out and they could find nothing, so I just chalk it up to being old.

It's strange, I never had that before - feeling dizzy, yes but literally collapsing when trying to get up, as if somebody pushed me down onto the bed again and unable to move due to the whole room spinning for a minute or two - that's a new one.
Took a high strength magnesium and potassium supplement, but even after lots of Dr google there seems to be no indication hat either of the supplement could have caused this reaction 8 hours after taking them, in the early hours of the morning.
Not going anywhere today or tomorrow as emotionally drained anyway - will take supplements again tonight and see if the fainting happens again, and will do another Covid test Sunday if I still feel off To be honest right now just tired and exhausted and fed up with work...

Both times I have had covid I tested negative for the first couple of days even though my symptoms were strong. I had an upset stomach with it the second time.
