In theory, I keep £20 in my phone wallet. In practice, I have it for 8 months and then spend it all within a week.

Monday at the school book fair, along with lots of other people (I was mostly there helping by taking all the cash payments). There is a rather faffy online option. I have been gently suggesting the school buy a card payment thingy for a number of years now.

Well, one weekend in Germany - my German bank account debit card was eaten by the machine when I tried to take Euros out due to potential fraud. So there I was, with a German bank account with nearly 1K in euros on, that I could not access. Still need to contact bank to get new card issued but their online login is just such a pain that I will wait until the weekend. It would be easiest to transfer the money to my UK account and then use UK cards in Germany, but you loose out twice on exchange rates (sell and buy so different) and then international fees - but I could have kicked the ATM that ate my card for no reason I can see!
So had to use my UK cards, both to take cash out which comes with high fees (but you can't go without cash in Germany) and to pay for a shop - let's see if they take foreign currency fees for that as well, UK banks used to but not sure they do anymore.
All highly annoying.

Moi: had enough cash in my purse for once to use it for a collection for a colleague's birthday, rather than the usual PayPalling.

Must have been recently. I've just donned my trousers for the first time in ten days and there's small change in the pocket.

A glass of wine for $10 last week - I had a note so used it instead of plastic.

didn't really buy anything in the last days - last thing i bought was some pizza for dinner on tuesday, i think i paid cash for that ... as others said, still very common here ... there are also a lot of shops who do accept card payment, but only if you spend a minimum amount (often 5 or 7 or 10 euros) - if it is below that, then only cash.
i always wonder - in countries where cash payment is not common (like, in sweden there are various shops where you can't pay cash at all), how do they do it with allowance for small kids, or with giving a beggar a few coins or how do undocumented immigrants who can't get a bank account deal with that ...

... or with giving a beggar a few coins or how do undocumented immigrants who can't get a bank account deal with that ... Yeah, those folks are kind of screwed. That's a lot of the argument I hear against no-cash places, that it really puts those folks at a disadvantage. I guess they could assemble their coins and buy a pay-as-you-go card, but what a pain to have to go and fill that all the time instead of just using the cash right away! Here the no-cash places tend to be too expensive for someone who's dependent on cash gifts anyway, but still.

My favourite Asian takeaway (mostly because it’s next to the supermarket, and the people are nice) is cash only. As they’re recent immigrants, there may be a reason for this.

BOUGHT a concert ticket this evening - ad said "Tickets at the door, Cash or check only" - wonderful baroque trio of recorders, lute and viola da gamba, which was the best THING I DID TODAY. Three-for, anyone? Or am I too lazy or too embarassed to make three posts of it?

Apparently cash is preferred in Laos to card, so we'll be travelling with more than on our usual holidays.

Did a reverse cash purchase today. I had a pile of "reverse vending machine" bottle return vouchers which I handed to the cashier - she gave me cash and I then paid for my groceries with plastic.

BOUGHT a concert ticket this evening - ad said "Tickets at the door, Cash or check only" - I probably haven't written a cheque in around ten years. My bank is currently in the process of checking out, but even I am behind the times. Increasingly these days I see people flashing their phones at the cashier.

We don't have any cheque books.
Saw that the cost of a bank cheque is going up to $30 for Commonwealth, assume the others will be similar soon.

Our tax rebates even go straight to the bank account!
I pretty much only use checks to move money from my checking account bank to the credit union where our joint account and various savings things are. (I'm sure I could probably do that electronically, just haven't gotten around to figuring out how.)

And, for the first time in over a decade, I have just received a cheque in the mail - a month or so after my bank got out of the chequeing business.

Cheques can be deposited into your account with your smart-thing banking app. Mine just says 'point you phone at the cheque', it takes a pic and pretty much that's it.
