happy with last night's dinner: started with wine, olives and tomato bruschetta from the oven on the balcony, orange-couscous with eggplant, walnuts and coriander-yoghurt dip, and amaretto-mint marinated strawberries with lime-mascarpone. yumm.
tonight: zucchini/spinach risotto.

Marks & Spencer markdown day. So, lunch was venison burger patties + calamari rings on the bbq. Delicious!
Dinner was a non starter.
But tomorrow there will be a bagel for breakfast, and roast lamb probably for lunch. Dinner will be at a pop up restaurant by the Seine, as long as it doesnt rain

I'm not eating it yet, but on the stove I have a huge cast iron pan full of reasonably hot peppers, onion, garlic, tomatoes, okra, corn scraped from the cob, herbs from the garden (parsley, basil, oregano, chives), and fish stock, to which I will shortly add a cut-up soft shell crab and a pound of shrimp. To be served over rice.
I love summer. And not only because I am on my second G&T.

It was a main course?
Last night was a chickpea and quinoa salad with all sorts of crunchy vegetables and a sharp dressing. Yum.
Tonight will be a toss up between another substantial salad or pumpkin risotto.
Lunch was a grilled chicken salad.

I've attempted to eat my own body weight in Tim Tams, pies and vanilla slices over the last fortnight - have just spent nearly $50 on Vegemite, Tim Tams and Cherry Ripes to take back to the UK.
Sadly the eating has to stop when I land back as after seeing how fat people have gotten around the 'rat I have no intention of joining them!

You can only eat them in the morning - they're too "old" in the afternoons. I used to get care packs sent from home when I was living in the UK - my craving was violet crumble bars.

I used to get care packs sent from home when I was living in the UK - my craving was violet crumble bars. Never heard of that rule (and I worked in a bakery for a couple of years) but I think I could happily eat vanilla slices morning, afternoon and night! Besides, any vanilla slice in my vicinity is in no danger of getting too old.......I'd say it has about 5 minutes left at most. I did bring back a load of Tim Tams (the new varieties - pretty sure you can still get the plain ones here if you look in the right Tesco). And some Monte Carlos. And some Cherry Ripes for other people but my weakness was always a Violet Crumble too.
