Saw Ethel's post when I logged on earlier to - I PM'd our Glorious Mod about it just now, hadn't realised other people had picked up on it as well. But as Kate says, with the General Board log in only now, it should hopefully be more troll-proof

I you've made this board log in only, can you get rid of the private board? It just feels rather like there is a secret club that only some can belong to. I understand that it is for where people can get support if something shitty is happening, but by having only some people having access to them, you wouldn't get a range of opinions. I might be something that one of the hoi polloi could help with, but they wouldn't be able to we it's on the private board.
Good idea to make this board log in only, given what some of the stewbies did over on the pot.

paddox we wont be making any changes at the moment... the log in is something Kate did for the interim.
Personally if the private board is removed I will not feel comfortable posting truly private things in there. Especially if we have newbies who are approved but we dont "get to know" before they are privy to our deepest darkest issues/ confessions.
And i am not sure why you see it as a secret club? Everyone who was here as of "whatever the time was that admin said the other day" got the password, new posters have to be here for a minimum of posts and then will be given access.
As it stands- If people want the opinions and input of the whole community they will post it in GENERAL.
If they need somewhere to post with safety/ support and virtual hugs and without criticism/ negativity they will post in GT.

I get, that, to some extent, but on wt, even when things were posted 'inside, for the illusion of privacy', they were available for all and sundry to read. Given that this place is by invite only and not able to be searched on with things like google, I doubt that you will get many (any?) newbies that are not invited by a current poster. At some stage, all posters will have past the post amount (how much is this, btw?), so the need for a locked board would be moot.
You guys have done a great job setting this place up, I'm not trying to slag you off at all, I'm just wondering at the need for it.

Unfortunately, as pero and machi mentioned above... the url for here has been posted elsewhere and therefore we may get trolls/ troublemakers. Its not my decision , altho it was discussed at length and thats the decision for now. The post number is 10 I believe. I dont know if it will change, if the general board will stay as login only etc... we need time to sort everything out- its only the first week  Maybe one day you will see the need for it and then you will be grateful it exists. |

Paddox--I get what you mean, but some things aren't appropriate for public consumption, and the 'inside for the illusion of privacy' was always tongue in cheek. It's not a private club like the ones on MP where the members need to approve of you before you get let in.
There are things I'd never post on a completely open forum but will do if it's legitimate posters only.
Edited to add: if the parameters ever change, can those who have posted be notified?

FYI - just had a quick peek at the FAQ thread on TT out of curiosity, this site is now mentioned as the 'most popular' forum WTers and YCers have moved to in post #498, so there may be inbound posters from TT as well.

I found the reference to us on the "Welcome Back" thread on TT Faqs, by Onlymark, at #538. He referred to previous attempts to post it. Perhaps 498 was one of these previous attempts, since removed. It is definitely not there now.

The thread on Meeting Pot has been archived, and can no longer be viewed. Its title is still visible, and may or may not disappear with time (depending on forum software/settings I suppose).
