Laughing at my naivety, we're probably going to do a day trip to Milan on Tuesday from our accommodation in the lake district. I thought "Oh, I'll just go online to see if I can pre-book tickets to get into see Da Vinci's The Last Supper". Ha!, they are completely booked out until at least the end of January. weve been in milan 2 & still have never seen it but have started this

Some of the class readers that came home when LC was in primary school still had some outdated attitudes (though nothing as blatant as that!) and I'd always pass on that maybe it was time to retire a few books.

Watching Rage. As usual they have guest programmers, but it is not a band today. Instead we have two actors from a local show (Heartbreak High). And unlike bands which often have very similar music taste, these two are vastly different. So we went from the 10 minute version of All too well by Taylor Swift to something from a small Sydney punk band! And now it's gone from another local post punk band to Aurora.

Laughing in shock more than humour. I was sorting through a donation from a very elderly person; it was a little sad to see her entire life in books. I was about to put a children's book, 'Lickle Tickle' in the kids box, and thought I'd read a bit. Story 1: Tickle and the black baby I opened to the middle of it, and within 3 pages found 4 examples of blantantly racist language and several more racist innuendos. So I understand a little more why my inlaws find certain language hard to give up--it was part of their moral education! Book went in the pulping box. When I was teaching in Solomon Islands, I often received donations of sets of encyclopaedias with incredibly colonialist attitudes. I very soon learnt to say no to any encyclopaedias, as they were so dated.

Today at the shop, the manager got a vinyl LP of an australian band called 'Gut Health'. He played us a track on his phone--a lot louder and thrashier than I'd expected!

might need some context - James Blunt has said that if his new/re-release of the album "Back to Bedlam" reaches number one he will change his name. He ran a vote on twitter and you'll never guess what won... https://www.instagram.com/reel/DA_WwGKh4O2

I've just heard The Dead Kennedys playing 'Viva Las Vegas' and I can't decide if it's homage or parody.

A character in the book I'm reading is described going to "a Polish vodka bar near Holborn" in the mid-2000s. Which - hang on, there was a WT pissup at a pub somewhere near Holborn in 2006 or so when we ended up doing shots in a Polish vodka bar nearby, didn't we? kneazle, I think you were there? Amusing

I may have been there, but may have had to catch a train with Newpie, as I'd missed my last one home and had nowhere else to stay? If we'd had smartphones, she and I could have stayed longer, crashing at a hostel!

Newpie! That's one of the other people who were there - I couldn't remember her screen name. And maybe @cakemonkey? Jeez that's nearly 20 years ago. Sorry to have missed you, if that was that same time!

Amusing Yes - I'm pretty sure it was in that general area. I remember someone commenting that the area looked Dickensian and someone saying that one of his novels was set around the corner. I also seem to remember spilling blue vodka on myself.

Queen and what is she doing with that rolling pin? (Speaking of forgetting things, it's been so long since I've used a rolling pin that I had to search "rolling pin" because I wasn't sure that that was the word for that thing.)

Quite a lot of people also asked that question. The image cracks me up, because that's what AI thinks a grandma looks like. I am grandma age and My grandma didn't look like that.

One-legged trousers might be handy short-term if you have your leg in a cast, but for high-fashion money you could get a couple of pairs of cheapos and amputate, or go digging in your closet for free.

I have a concrete drive to my half section house. Neighbour 1 has her birthday today, Neighbour 2 has an 8 year old grandsons birthday today. I have 9 kids playing ball games, hop scotch, skipping and marbles in my drive. Brilliant and so much fun to watch. Have been judge and jury, plus chief taster of Pavlov and birthday cake.
Great as other than individual families none knew one another and 2 of them have limited English but HUGE smiles. Texts from neighbour's quietly keeping eyes out the windows will be kept long term. Ps. Oldest responsible 10 year old knocked on door to ask for permission.
