Joss Whedon's "Much Ado about Nothing"
Loved. Very well done - in fact, I think I prefer it to the Kenneth Branagh/Emma Thompson version. After the first 5 minutes where you get used to the language, it didn't jar doing Shakespearean language in a modern setting. I also liked the use of black and white, and I'm lusting over Whedon's house.

we rented 'life of Pi' from iTunes this weekend, enjoyed it a lot. but then i loved the books. they left out the meeting with the chef at sea, but taht would have made the movie much longer without adding so much. beautiful beautiful cinematography.
wuld like to see despicable Me but man is anti animation. i've been softening him up with minions, so fingers crossed. otherwise, i'll try to get a friend to go with me and her kids during the day.

The Conjuring. I love that genre. Really enjoyed it at the cinema with loud sound effects, lots of scares.

I'm just home from Before Midnight. Admittedly, I haven't seen the other two - but I thought these were supposed to be amazing and beautiful movies? Maybe I need to catch up first. I don't think I got it. Two people constantly talking, mostly arguing, psycho woman being a typical 'woman'. Seriously don't get it.

You def need to see the first two. It should give it all context. Though in those all they really do is talk as well

a friend copied over about 25 movies he has on hard drive, and we looked through them last night.
we started watching 'get the gringo' (how i spent my summer vacation) last night just to see how bad it could be, and it was surprisingly good for a caper movie. it appears that mel gibson will not try to do actions stunts he's 20 yrs too old for, and the woman he's hitting on will only be 10, not 25 yrs younger than him. we're only 30 minutes in, but so far, it's been fun.

halcyon, yes, I suppose. and I don't mind movies with a lot of talking, but she was SO annoying. I had my eyes rolling at her several times. but maybe the other movies will set the scene better....
ah well. another movienight tonight. date to see Persepolis in an outdoor cinema setting. yay!

I watched The Impossible over the weekend. Have never cried in a movie before but this had me bawling!
Thought the acting was really good especially the oldest son. Not sure how true to actual events it was but would have been bloody scary to be involved in such a devastating event.

The Conjuring. I love that genre. Really enjoyed it at the cinema with loud sound effects, lots of scares. Do you like horror in general or the supernatural theme? I find movies like that attracts a lot of noisy people who ruins the film. Paranormal Activities was totally ruined that way.

Saw "The Way Way back" on Saturday - love it.
Am thinking of going to see "20 feet from Stardom" but tomorrow is the last night and I'm not sure I want to go out on a school night. Anyone seen it?

Ria, I think I like paranormal genre rather than blood thirsty horror. Normally I'm not at the cinema, but this was like 11am on a Sunday. Hardly anyone there... bliss. Other people spoil movies for me, especially popcorn gobblers.

I saw 2 Guns last week, it was okay, nothing special. Formulaic buddy movie with a bit of a twist. Will be seeing Elysium sometime next week.

Just saw "Elysium". I didn't have high expectations but I found it to be a highly enjoyable no-brainer!

I saw "Elysium" the weekend before last - I thought it was "meh" - I might have had too high expectations for Matt Damon as he normally picks good ones but I found it just your average Sci-Fi flick.
I took the nephews to see "Planes" on the weekend in 3D - wasn't as painful as I thought it was going to be and in fact I thought it was better than "Cars".

Stoker. Beautifully made, the set - the house in particular - was amazing. And disturbing, I still think about it.
Olympus Has Fallen. Har, extremely entertaining and I stayed awake.
Oblivion. Fell asleep, but visually spectacular while my eyes were open.

I thought Olympus has Fallen was extremely cheesy (I hate all the USA saves the day, yee har'' stuff in these movies), but a good watch and GB was droolsome! Oblivion was visually amazing and great for the first hour, but then it dragged on and I fell asleep, happily. Not sure I fancy Stoker, but I do love a movie that leaves me thinking about it for days. That's not happened in a long time!

I'm worried it'll be very upsetting (I remember it all so well), but also if it will annoy me the way it focuses so much on the western experience of the tragedy so much?

Surfy, it was so emotional. For someone who had never understood how people could cry at TV or movies, it didn't just have me choked up, I was bawling!!

Same, bought it the other day and am glad I bought it not acquired it. I love the casting and I love how similar it is to the original TV series. Can't wait for the next one now!

I watched the new Hugh Jackman/Jake Gyllanhaul (sp) movie this week - Prisoners.
I quite liked it. It's maybe a bit longer than it needs to be, but the acting all around was fabulous. Also, it's best to see this on a big screen. Some of the shots were spectacular. Great director.
