I watched Flight over the weekend. I thought it sounded interesting in the trailers - I was so wrong! Rubbish story line and rubbish acting!

Waiting for Hunting Elephants to come to a local cinema - it starts in about 3 weeks time, so will probably go and see it.

I watched the new Hugh Jackman/Jake Gyllanhaul (sp) movie this week - Prisoners. I quite liked it. It's maybe a bit longer than it needs to be, but the acting all around was fabulous. Also, it's best to see this on a big screen. Some of the shots were spectacular. Great director. Just came on here to see if anyone has seen it as it's definitely a movie to talk about, isn't it. I won't put any spoilers in but I've come away with so many questions un-answered. One thing I think is interesting is the minute the movie ended I thought ''wow, that was incredible'', but now I've thought about it for a few days I don't think it was. I can't say why without ruining it, but..........

Has anyone seen Gravity?

No Tucano and it's one of those movies I am uhhming and ahhing about. It looks fab, but I'm also wondering a) if it would completely freak me out (it's almost a worst nightmare of mine) and b) if they can pull off a whole movie with just someone stuck in space!??!??!

CBGB
About the historic rock club that launched a 1000 bands and the guy who started it all.
Brought me back to high school when, with a friends sister's ID I tried to pass my 15yo self off as a 21yo to get in to hear music. I do admit to peeing in the bathroom in desperation.

Webs, is it a documentary or a biopic?

It was neither. It was a very accurately fictionalized account of the birth of Punk in the US. Alan Rickman was amazing.

I saw it and appear to be the only person who thought it was only ok. This review made me laugh "In space no one can hear you snore..most overrated film of the year..surprisingly zero tension, couldn't have cared any less for the 2 characters..Bullock isn't interesting enough to carry an entire film & Clooney is as bland as always..would've been more interesting if they'd put the Chuckle brothers up there"I thought "Thor - the dark world" was very entertaining.

I watched the Bling Ring last night. Don't bother. Shallow, disappointing, dull.

Gravity was all about the effects, but the effects were very good. I saw it in 3D and I wouldn't bother otherwise.
Telve Years a Slave is long and slow and the writers have no idea of the situation of free blacks in the north or in Washington DC in the 1840s.

I agree the effects were very good (I saw it in 3D too) but I thought the characters were shallow and not built up - I simply didn't care. Actually that's not entirely correct, I found SB annoying enough to want to slap her frequently. Mainly it just felt very slow and boring mostly.

The films showing on the a Vietnam Airlines flight were pretty rubbish, I watched Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters which was pretty rubbish but not a bad airplane film in that you didn't really need to follow the story too closely. I also watched Safe Heaven. Really chick flick that had me with a lump in my throat as the credits rolled and also made me realise how hot Josh Duhamel is. How have I never seen him in anything before!

I saw "Philomena" a couple of weeks ago - appropriately enough while I was in Dublin.
It's the story of a woman who had a child out of wedlock, and the nuns sold her baby. He went to the US with his adoptive parents and could never find his biological mother and never knew she was also looking for him. The film follows her search.
There is a whiff of sentimentality about it, but is saved by the shards of humour. Plus there's Judi.

I liked Philomena too. Plus the male lead was wearing the same scarf as the one I wear all the time.
Ria, when I said that Gravity was all about the effects, I meant among other things that it was not about character.

I saw Gravity in a Patagonian cinema with five other people, as it happens. But yes, in 3D.
Anyway, I also saw 7 Days in Havana in Santiago. This is an arty film in seven sections, each with a different director - one of them is Benicio del Toro. It seemed to be just out in Chile although this is odd because it was apparently released last year. Anyway, I liked it a lot, although it did not make me want to visit Cuba.

Gravity in 3D - tense! Really enjoyed it, amazing effects. Filth - the novel is better. Not sure James McAvoy was the right fit. Bling Ring - enjoyed it, interesting social commentary, am keeping my children provincial for as long as possible. Disconnect - started off with a promising premise but in the end my entertainment was one of the main character's bad wig. And Marc Jacobs! Stick to design please. Pacific Ring - started out quite promising, but I rested my eyes for a second and woke up during the credits. Diana - disappointing. The storyline took too many liberties. Mr Pip - I went with people who read the book. Not really my cup of tea though it was beautifully made.

Watched Warm Bodies on DVD last night, such a sweet zombie film. I really loved it. Great use of music in the film as well, and the echoes to Romeo and Juliet were well done.

I saw 'Like Father, Like Son' last weekend. beautiful movie, by one of my favourite Japanese directors Kore-eda Hirokazu. It's about two families who find out their sons were switched at birth.

Saw "Stoker" - thought it was just weird.
"Man of steel" boring, it felt like 1 1/2 hour of fights and 20min of 'plot'.
