huh, more koreeda titles I don't know... i thought i was pretty much on track with his movies! guess not. (I only know Nobody Knows from the ones you mention)
I love After Life, though I should see it again. Luckily, I just won two of his dvd's including this one (the other is Still Walking which also sounds unfamiliar).
i keep thinking Departures is also one of his movies, but I know it isn't.

I saw "The wolverine" (2013) and fund it utterly boring. It didn't have good reviews so I didn't even have high expectations and it still sucked. Either films like that have more and more action and less plot or I'm just getting over it. When it feels like a film is 80-90% fighting...yawn...

"The world's end" it was ok but not as funny as I'd been lead to believe. Quite annoying in bits.

winter's bone jennifer lawrence as a country girl takes care of her family once her father goes missing amid the meth labs & rednecks Utterly depressing but awesome film nevertheless imo. I saw "The prisoners" and thought it was really good. Also watched "Riddick" and liked it but not as much as "Pitch Black" even though it's pretty much the same film. Loved "The Hobbit 2" even though it annoyed me the bits they changed, especially the ending - I understand why and it looked good though.

I saw The Butler on the flight here. I liked it. Interesting way to share an important bit of American history on race segregation & the civil rights movement. it did seem convenient that so much was concentrated within just a few people but I guess that's how you make movies.
oh, I also saw the first half of the fifth estate, a fictionalized film about wikileaks and Julian Assange. I hadn't heard of it, but it was interesting. unfortunately the video system broke down so I couldn't see the rest of it.

I watched the extended version of "The Hobbit" and loved it. The extra scenes added depth and humour. I wish it been longer!
Also watched "Stake land" a low budget vampire film heavily inspired by "The Road". Not bad at all.
I re-watched "An American werewolf in London" and I still think it's a good film.
"The conjuring" is about a haunted family and wasn't bad at all for that genre. Well made and quite creepy in places. The ending let it down imo though.
"The hunter" is a film where an evil bio-tech company has realised that there may be one Tassie Devil left and they want it for research so they send a guy to hunt it. It's bleak and depressing (in a way Aussies do so well) slow and set in stunning scenery. It shows a different side to what most people think of as Australia. I really liked it until the end, but then I don't know what end could have worked.

Watched C.O. G. and enjoyed it. Felt the main character's struggle was well written.
The Heat - funny and loved that it centered on two women's strong personalities.
Cirque Worlds Away - the story was weak but the imagery was spectacular!
The Way - I can't believe I waited so long to watch this - had it in my netflix queue for months. Want to walk El Camino de Santiago even more now.

I basically liked American Hustle but it was a bit long for my tastes, and here and there unbelievable. I'm pretty sure that FBI agents who beat up their bosses with telephones wind up in jail. in any case they don't get to keep their jobs and get their pet projects funded. And that bit was in no way necessary for the story.

I saw "The Butler" on a flight as well, I thought it was pretty good.
It is based on a true story, but I think a lot of the stuff is compressed to make the point more strongly.
Thinking of doing a mid day movie, because I can... Inside Llewyn Davis or Walter Mitty?

I couldn't stand Inside Llewyn Davis -- unfunny jokes, annoying characters, and about ten hours long -- so based on that alone my vote goes to Walter Mitty (haven't seen it).

I saw the Butler a few weeks ago, and was impressed. Recently saw The Book Thief, which is excellent, and The Hobbit, and think I need to read the book again to work out how much of the story line was Peter Jackson's imagination. I know the additional Gandalf bits come from other Tolkien writings.

I finally saw the film "Australia." It was the biggest load of crap. Calling the film Australia? Very inappropriately named, it's nothing about Australia per se, just your usual tale of murder, greed, hate and love. Film could have been set anywhere, the tale itself has been done to death many times over.
Watched "The Help" and "The Intouchables" again, just as good as before. Good films, both.
Ozzie, The Butler looks like a very interesting film from the advertising. Am waiting for it to come on dvd at our local library.

Saw the latest Hobbit. It was ok but not my favourite film. Way too long.
Really enjoyed the second Hunger Games movie. I don't usually enjoy books made into films but these ones have been an exception for me.
Saw The Butler last weekend too. Thought it was well done and enjoyed it.

I heard a radio interview with the author of "the Hunger Games" while driving around Victoria. I think I will have to try reading them.

Saw August: Osage County recently. Some stellar performances, notably Julia Roberts and Meryl Streep. Beautifully filmed. Mixed reviews from friends, but I rated it. I like a little bleakness.

Ozzie, I didn't think they would be my type of book but I loved them. Read one after the other in a couple of weeks. Some people didn't like the second and third but I enjoyed them all.

Saw Her today and loved it. A funny and sweet film and it raised some good points about relationships and technology. We've had a good discussion about it since coming home.
I do wonder if it makes a good date film though. ;-)

Watched Blue Jasmine on Friday night. Loved it! Not normally a fan of Cate Blanchett but she was really good in this. Ending was a bit disappointing though!

I saw two films on Friday. August:Osage County and Blue Jasmine. August - some impressive performances particularly from Julia Roberts (not a fan normally) and Julianne Nicholson (I can't recall seeing her in anything before), but I don't think it's a great film. The whole way through I kept thinking it felt too much like a play, especially the very tight dialogue. So wasn't surprised to see in the credits it was a) based on a play and b) the playwright wrote the film script herself.
Blue Jasmine - I loved it too. Crazycat - I liked the ending.

American Hustle - entertaining (I didn't look at my watch once), sharply scripted and some strong performances. Recommended!
