LC is home sick again from school - he pushed it to get back to school yesterday for a special event and wiped himself out. Just the effort of putting on his school uniform this morning left him so tired he is back in bed asleep. So all the stuff I had planned to get done today isn't happening. Means I get a rest day as well.

Start of our 4 day mid-term break, so I leisurely packed the van, now named Essie, and headed north. Photos are on facebook.

I had a really nice day with an ex-colleague/boss who has become a friend since I retired. It's quite liberating to be able to talk outside the confines of the hierarchy of employment. We always got on well, but it seems we can now share stuff that would have been trickier before.
It's been a quiet evening though, and my mood seems to have sunk a little bit. I watched the Louis Theroux scientology film then came to bed.

as st. martin's day was on saturday, the daycare is doing their lantern procession today. before that, my little brother will pick up a. from daycare and bring her hear, i will tutor him for his english class for half an hour, and then we leave again together to go to the procession. afterwards, there'll be hot cocoa and bread rolls baked by the kids, in the backyard of the daycare centre, and probably some kids will present a play about the st. martin story. a. claims she is in the play, but when mr. r. asked one of the teachers, they didn't know anything about that ...

Today I'm going to the gym for my second induction session. Which is just as well, as I've just weighed myself and discovered that I'm 5lbs heavier than I thought I was.

in the end, i had to get dressed to ask downstairs neighbours if strange knocking in my boiler was a result of something they were doing in kitchen. it wasn't, but it stopped after that. they said they'd seen a work van in the parking lot, but i got out on my kitchen ledge to ask if someone was on the roof--no answer.

a. was right - she was in the play! actually, she had one of the two main roles! (i suppose the teacher mr. r. asked didn't know, as she wasn't the one that practiced it with the kids) ... she was so cute, sitting there with a kind of dreamy expression, like she imagined herself on a big stage (she loves playing "theatre" all the time, lately)

Today at work I have to take photos of people because our VP is retiring and they need some candid photos of our staff with the VP to show at our big meeting next month. I told them that I literally NEVER take pictures of people, that I mostly take pictures of moths and dragonflies, but somehow they've translated this into "event photographer" so I am going to be doing this thing. LOL.

feeling stressed because there are too many things and too many decisions and so on. and in a little while picking up a. and bringing her to music school. was considering going to the post office afterwards but might wait a day or two, after all - we got a package that wasn't for us, addressed to our address but with a completely different name, our landlord said to turn it in right away, as it might be a scam, but online it just says if someone picks up the package in such a case, to let them show their id card, and to keep the note from the post office ...

Ergh. I'm trying to listen to a favourite band on the radio, while the Malawian lad I sponsored through medical school is messaging with tales of woe, and simultaneously, a friend is messaging me, angry at himself for something which I really can't help him with.
I'm going to have to give up on the band and listen later on iPlayer. And abandon my computer with the (real) excuse that I need to make dinner.

Wondering who put the extremely religious Thanksgiving type card into our work mailbox. No envelope or signature. Our assistant who is out on medical got a weird typed letter like that one day. Left on her desk.
