Why do I usually turn down offers to go to live plays? I appreciate the arts, but I really have to be interested in a specific one. Crowds of people and sitting still for a couple of hours is also not appealing.

Why my partner's radiator gets up to 36 C but mine only to 33. His is larger, but otherwise identical.

I am going to see a play tomorrow. I went online to check how long it lasts, and saw this message:
Unfortunately, the Tuesday 23 January performance of Overflow has been cancelled due to cast illness.
I am wondering how they know the whole cast will be ill this far ahead? It does say an understudy will be in the role on Wed (one person play)

Ok, think we've worked it out -understudy must be ill already. Main person was already unavailable for that performance, and now it is cancelled.
It was bugging me that tomorrow is fine but Tuesday cancelled with illness.
but tomorrow's actor should be fine and not ill!

I had 2 pieces of weaving that I bought at an estate sale. I thought that I brought them upstairs while organizing. Now I can't find them.

No reason to be in the car. Nothing is in the car. I thought that they were on a barstool. Hope they didn't get into the donation or trash bag.

puzzling might be the wrong word, but i had two encounters today that make me wonder if am a bad person, part of a general coldness in society, etc. - in the train today there were several people begging, as there usually are, and it's been more lately and i notice how as a result i less often give something. anyway, this one guy, today, kept complaining very loudly why no one will give him anything, why no one will even look at him, and that he will have to throw himself in front of a train since people just ignore him. and i felt bad about it, but ignored him, too - because if i looked at him, i suppose next thing i'd have to give him something, and a part of me felt like i didn't want to give money to someone who uses that kind of threat, even though i suppose the reason is probably in mental or drug related issues ... then, just a few minutes later another person walked through and again i didn't give anything, and that guy had such a strong smell i actually felt sick - i suppose there must be some health related reasons, so again, it made me wonder if i am a bad person for just wishing him to go away as quickly as possible ... a third person walked through the train a couple of minutes after that, and in his case, no one gave him anything either, i think mainly because he was the third within a few minutes (though no one had given anything to those first two, either) ...

Why can one person trigger me so often? I don't even care about her. But if I say red, she would say green.

rikita, you don’t need to feel bad. I would never give cash to a begging stranger on a train or in the street. I know too much about what they might do with it. I do support charities like soup kitchens and homeless shelters, and have occasionally given someone food, but never money.

R. You are not a bad person. Times are tough at the moment and it's impossible to give to everyone in need, and it's also hard to distinguish between those who are making an effort to help themselves and those who are hoping for any easy handout.

I don't like to take my wallet out on the street and fumble around in what little cash I have, so I don't give money to street beggars either, and I wouldn't have wanted to get into a conversation with that guy either.
I donate money to a local charity that supports people in need instead.

I also donate to a local charity. I very rarely give cash to people on the street. One, I rarely have cash. Two, I don't know who they are. I'm pretty sure that a local woman I see when I'm out is working under a handler I've seen her with, and he does not come across as a pleasant bloke. So I'm sorry for her, because sitting on the sidewalk for 6 hours is a terrible way to make a living, but he wears some incredibly expensive gear. Why should I contribute to his tacky jackets?
ME: Every year I apply for the same summer gig. Every year it takes me 8 hours to write my cover letter. Why?

When I see people begging I consider that I don't want to be the funding for their overdose. I have been stupid in my giving a few times like the guy pretending to play violin when it's streaming via a phone. Of course I didn't know it at the time. I got shook down on the metro train one time. I think he ended up with a bag of foreign coins. He was high and I was jetlaged.

Times are tough at the moment and it's impossible to give to everyone in need, and it's also hard to distinguish between those who are making an effort to help themselves and those who are hoping for any easy handout. i don't think either of the two was in a state where they could make an effort to help themselves - so i wouldn't call it hoping for an easy handout, they were just not in a mental situation to think in those terms.
but really, the part that made me feel bad was not so much not giving them money (though i do sometimes give money, can't really say according to which rules, more a momentary decision), but not looking at them and just wanting them to go away, normally i try acknowledge people's humanity, even when i don't give something ... not sure how to explain it ...

Yes, I don't have any opinion about folks as to whether they're just looking for a handout, or if they want drugs or whatever - I assume most folks who are panhandling genuinely need help, and rich people probably finagle way more money via tax dodges and rent hikes etc than panhandlers would ever manage to do anyway.
I just don't interact with them because I don't like to interact with randos stopping me in the street to ask favors other than directions, and hope that they will figure out how to get some help (in a way that doesn't entail their interacting with me).

Why do I smell Bovril? I'm in my office drinking coffee. No one else drinks Bovril but me, and I don't drink it from this mug.
And now I smell wet dog in my living room... we don't have a dog.

On Kangaroo Island we went to a sheep dairy and had sheep's milk yogurt. It was delicious! A very delicate flavor.

I'd like to try that. I had curdled sheep's milk once (a Slovak speciality), and my facial muscles got quite a lot of exercise that day.

what is new zealand style yogurt? & australian style? thanks I've not heard of 'NZ or Oz style yogurt. The stuff I used to buy comes in plastic tubs, is quite thick to start with then after a day or 2 the whey starts to separate out. There are 2 main styles sold here - pot set, and Greek style. I would buy the Greek style if I wasn't avoiding lactose. Fortunately there is a lactose free Greek style yog which I quite like - but I'd prefer plain Greek style.

The Russian drink is Kefir, cousin to Lassi, both very refreshing relatives of yogurt. There's also an Armenian varian which is a bit fizzy - I forget the name.
Kefir cheese is similar to Labna.
Local microbes vary.
