I know exactly where the iron is. It's in Himself's study. I've used it about twice since we moved here 10 years ago. We're another household where we are both responsible for our own laundry.
Also -folding steamers - they still make those?! I use a cheap bamboo one(or three) from the chinese supermarket.

What is a folding steamer in relation to ironing? All google shows me is a cooking implement.

I never put a pan or a good knife in the dishwasher.
My partner has put me and his sister on our final warning for scratching his favourite non-stick pans with metal implements (I'm fairly sure this wasn't me, but whatever). If he catches us or finds any more scratches we're going to be banned from using these pans. Yes, he's quite serious!
His sister is already banned from using his best knife. She wasn't pleased.

I might do that with sodastream bottles. If I find one more in the dishwasher I might scream. If I find one more in the dishwasher after it has been washed and shrunk, I will definitely scream.

partner does the dishwasher--I sometimes unload it, but that's it. and he does it wrong--he's never read the manual, so uses too much product on the uber-long cycle and only gets 75% of the dishes in. we've bought more pots and lids in the 5 years of this house than in the 10 years of our relationship prior to that, and I pay for 50% of them. not happy, jan. he's just obsessed with the idea that in any cleaning process, longer is automatically better. So what's your game plan here? Come on, we all want to play along at home. Plan A: Marry Jimm, who knows how to use a dishwasher. Plan B: Refuse to pay for any more pans/lids/nice wine glasses (extra salt in DW scratches them). If he sneaks one on to the joint card, I'll know, and reduce my share of the bill accordingly--I'm the only one who see the CC statement. Petty, but that's me.

You know if you live alone you never have to worry about how someone else uses a dishwasher? Just as a third option.

... Plan A: Marry Jimm, who knows how to use a dishwasher. ... That's the nicest thing I've heard for ages! But maybe not a good idea as there are lots of things I do rwong according to others.

Yes, pretty much! Mine is similar but the top is also steel rather than glass. (I should say "ours" but I've very possessive about that steamer.)

Indeed. I have 2, a biggie and a littlie - both aluminium. I'll be doing corned silverside tomorrow night - keeps me in dinners and sandwiches for a week.

"Silverside?" (My first thought was of a silverback gorilla, which obviously is not what you're referring to.)

It's very easy cooking, though. You just throw everything into the steamer and sit back with a beer and a book. Washing up is somilarly painless. If you're a purist you can make (or buy pre packaged) white sauce.

Speaking of white/bechamel sauce.
I heard that a certain country that shall remain nameless doesn't put bechamel in their lasagne.
We absolutely do.
What about others?

I mostly outsource the making of lasagna... but if I make it then yes, one of the layers is besciamella/bechemel/white sauce. And the only cheese that gets added is Parmigiano, none of this mozzarella or ricotta substitution that the terrone in the south use.

It wouldn’t be lasagna without bechamel. I’ve never attempted to make it, though.

Lasagna is Italian, bechamel is French!
I was raised by actual ITALIANS and was never told to put bechamel in lasagna, hmph
Layers of
- noodle - cheese (1/3 ricotta, 1/3 parmigian, 1/3 mozzarella, salt, pepper, parsley, egg) - sauce

Lasagna is Italian, bechamel is French! I was raised by actual ITALIANS and was never told to put bechamel in lasagna, hmph Bechemel was invented in Italy, where it was called Besciamella. Invented in Emilia Romana, where lasagna was invented and lasagna traditionally has layers of Besciamella, pasta, Ragu alla Bologna, with extra grated Parmesan on the last layer to make the top a little crispy. The use of ricotta and mozzarella is an invention/adaptation by Southern Italians. www.recipesfromitaly.com/lasagna-bolognese/I know, I'm very annoying.

LOL Now for the real story, if I make the traditional one with the proper ragu then I do make bechemel/besciamella, and I do not add mozzarella etc. But I quite often make a more vegetable one with aubergine and mushrooms in the sauce with about half the meat. Then I use slices of mozzarella and a little grated parmigiano on the top. Which I suspect is against all sorts of Italian Food rules
